For the last night it had felt as though the world was crumbling over-top of him. It was for a plethora of reasons, one being that it had been his second night out of the nursery, and it had been cold during the night. No matter how much his mother had tried to help him make a warm, cozy nest to sleep in, the cold from the previous leaf-bare combined with the dew that formed on the tips of the leaves in the morning was more than enough to make a thick-furred cat shiver, let alone a hairless one.
After a night of what seemed like forever twisting and turning, trying to get comfortable and getting snapped at by his fellow apprentices for moving every two seconds, Wormpaw finally emerged tired-eyed out of the den, a yawn almost instantaneously escaping his maw. Besides the fact that he was beyond exhausted, Wormpaw was also very excited, and so he quickly perked up, no matter how cold it was that morning.
It was his first day as an apprentice, training under the wing of Stoneshade. He remembered when Redstar had told him who his mentor would be-- he was so excited, every bone in his body was shaking with anticipation. Even mama had to tell him to hush, and to keep still because he was kicking up mud. He had happily obliged, but with great difficulty.
Looking around, Wormpaw proceeded to search everywhere for Stoneshade. He was a cat that the sphynx had looked up to ever since he could see-- seeing as he had no father figure, Wormpaw, as a kit, had always kept an eye out for an older warrior to hang out with, particularly male. From there he would annoy them forever on. He had basically hit up everybody besides Stoneshade, having been too intimidated by his large size, no matter how calm and kind he seemed to be from a distance.
Finally having his golden gaze lock on the stout grey tom, he put a big smile on his face and rushed forwards, eager to have a reason to become acquaintances with him. "Hi, Stoneshade! I'm your apprentice, Wormpaw! Remember? Redstar appointed you to be my mentor! It's really nice to talk to you!" he chirped excitedly, looking up to the male with an expectant gaze.
He could feel shivers starting to rack his body, but wasn't able to tell if it was from the cold or from his excitement.
Honestly, he didn't really care.
