GENERAL RULES
1. CTS is a PG-13 rated site, so please keep this in mind and avoid content that is too graphic or of a mature rating.
2. All members must be treated respectfully in all spaces of the site and relating to the site. We have a no tolerance attitude to any harassment or types of prejudice and they will be treated as serious matters. If you have an issues around the site with other members, situations or with staff themselves, please privately contact skyy and her socks so we can help you directly, rather than getting every man and his horse involved. We want to help you with your problems and improve the site overall, some please come talk to us.
3. While we would like to encourage discussion about everything and anything, the truth of the matter is we all have our own opinions, and sometimes those views clash with other members. You are welcome to have a discussion on any topic, however if there are any signs of an argument or someone involved tries to change the topic or explicitly asks for the change of discussion, please comply. Those who force the continuation of conversation, an especially those who attack and/or mock others for their views will be dealt with in a serious manner. Agree to disagree and drop the topic, and try to keep the space as welcoming to everyone as possible.
4. Do not exclude or ignore other members. If a member join a discussion in a public space such as a thread or the cbox, please acknowledge their existence and involve them in the discussion, even if that means changing the topic to one all members are happy with. Public spaces are for everyone to feel welcomed and involved. Save one-on-one or small group discussions for PMs or instant messengers.
5. Cursing, chat-speak and inappropriate comments should be kept to an absolute minimum and completely out of IC posts.
6. Stealing anything from CTS or our members will never be tolerated and result in being banned from the site indefinitely. If you want to use something or an idea, ask! Many people are happy to help you along.
7. We are a one account per person site! Please do not make anymore than the one.
8. Advertising other roleplay-related sites outside of the advertising boards is not permitted. Any links, banners or comments explicitly doing so will be removed by staff. Let's keep the focus on CTS while we're here, yeah?
ACTIVITY EXPECTATIONS
1. Activity checks are held once a month and all members, new or old, are expected to reply to them. Not replying to an activity check the first time will have all characters retired from roleplay, and any that were adopted returned to their original roleplayer. If the member then does not reply to a second activity check, their account will be marked as an inactive account, and a PM will be sent to alert them of this fact. At the next activity check, they will receive an email alerting them that should they not respond to a third check, their account will be deleted. Should they not reappear before the check and either return or voice that they wish to keep the account, the account will be deleted. Details on the differences between inactive accounts and legacy accounts can be found here.
The only way to be excused from replying is to have an active hiatus or semi-hiatus thread up in the absence board, without this you will be understood to have vanished. Any member is welcome to return at any time though, and details on what needs to be done can be found here.
2. In order to avoid collecting never-used accounts for roleplay purposes, if an account has not posted a biography (WIP or ready to accept) within a week of joining, the account will be deleted. You are more than welcome to rejoin again when you have more time.
3. Members holding high ranks have specific activity requirements they must meet to continue holding these ranks. Those can be found here.
GRAPHICS AND IMAGES
1. Your avatar must be 150 x 150 pixels. Anything other than this looks a bit awkward, and will be changed by staff or asked to be changed.
2. Signatures should be no bigger than 500 x 500 pixels. Anything wider will be resized automatically, however anything taller staff will remove and turn into a link instead.
3. All images used on site should be stock (public domain or covered by creative commons) or used with explicit permission from the artist or photographer. You can find CC images through the creative commons search, or through the stock images section of deviantArt. Unless you can provide permissions to use from the photographer, or point staff to the explicit place an image says it can be used, that is generally not a sign that it is the right image to be used. If you need assistance, feel free to contact staff.
4. Photographs / Photo sets are not claimable, and may be used by multiple characters. We don't check if an image doubles up, nor do we mind. Staff will not be enforcing every cat having a unique picture.
IN CHARACTER
1. CTS is an intermediate to advanced site, and has now raised our word minimum to 150 words. However, in saying this it is important you communicate with the people you roleplay with, and make sure you are giving each other enough to go by. It never hurts to PM someone who replies to your thread and raise issues you have with them.
2. Power-playing, god-modding, and any other behaviour that controls other people’s characters or has your character flawless is not permitted anywhere in roleplay.
3. Please be aware of your spelling and grammar. While we don't mind if you type in all lowercase, your grammar, punctuation and spelling should otherwise be at a minimum of a literate, intermediate standard. Some mistakes are obviously human, but please make sure you spell check what you post.
4. Liquid time is enabled, so a character may be in as many threads as you can handle. Please, try not to go overboard though! Make sure you do work to completing as many threads as possible.
5. All in character posts must be in third person, so using he/she/they rather than I or you.
6. Double posting is only permitted if you are having a thread between your own characters. This is to say, if you are replying to the same thread with the same character in consecutive posts, this is not permitted. Just edit your original post to include everything in one. However, if you are going back and forth between two characters, as a normal thread would between two members, that is just fine, so long as you are not doing solely this all the time.
7. All threads by default have a posting order. This means each person is to post at their turn in the order first posted in within the thread, as if you were standing in a line and going to the end after your turn. If you do not want your thread to have a posting order, you'll need to state such in the first post or it will be assumed to have one, and breaking the order will have staff intervening.
8. Any threads that consist of trespassing or forbidden romance meet ups between cats of different clans, or rogues with clan cats may be interrupted by a non-involved character chosen by staff, even if marked as closed or private. You character is taking a risk, remember this, and given how populated camps and territories are, sneaking around isn’t the easiest thing in the world. This isn’t to say just anyone can join the thread and interrupt. Staff will assess the situation, and will either inject a character themselves, or request another member with their characters to enter the thread. Characters will always be given the chance to respond before the cat notices or finds them directly, so they may still maintain their secrets, however this is to try and insert some realism into clan situations and working around them, as sneaking around, especially sneaking in just isn’t realistically done.
CHARACTERS
1. There is no set in stone character limit, however after 15 characters you must prove you are keeping all characters active. At the time of accepting another character, all your existing characters must be in active threads, with a reply done by someone within the last month. For future characters, any new characters will also need to be in active threads.
2. Members can only have one work in progress character at a time. Once your character is completely finished and just waiting acceptance, you are free to start the next. So you can several completed biographies waiting acceptance, just not multiple work in progress ones waiting around.
3. We are an LGBT+ character friendly site, so characters of all types are welcome here.
4. Cats who have joined a clan from another, or from beyond the clans in their history are currently not permitted, unless they are an adoption from a character accepted by staff before January 15th. However these will still require permission from skyy and her socks to be made. Cats who wish to join in roleplay will require several threads of them in their created situation, and explicit permission and agreement from skyy and her socks and the clan’s leader. Please make sure you read each clan’s leader policy before considering the idea.
5. There can only be one accepted character of a name on the site at one time, and only the future or past warrior names of kits, apprentices and leaders can be reserved. This means we cannot have two “Redfur” characters, or two “Mousepaw” characters. There can be multiple of the same prefix in each clan.
6. Characters are expected to age up one moon every two real life months. Staff will send out a PM at the time aging is to occur, and members will have two weeks to revisit their character biographies and update the ages to reflect the change in moon, and finish anything they deem needs to be done before the character ages. Staff will check that all characters have been aged after these two weeks and will address any that have not been updated. Full details on the aging process and alternative aging solutions can be found here.
7. Apprentices can become warriors at any time from the age of 10 moons. All that needs to be done is when the apprentice reaches that age, they will need to contact the clan leader to say they are ready. All apprentices will be made warriors at 12 moons without prompting, unless alternatives are arranged with the clan leader and staff.
8. Due to the above rule, apprentices cannot be created any older than 8 moons, unless adopted from another member for the sibling or child of an existing character. Please note, that should an apprentice be adopted from someone and be at warrior age from creation, they will only be available to become a warrior at the next age-up, not immediately as soon as created.
9. Kits can be created from scratch, however must be three moons or older, and have either an NPC or IC mother.
10. Queens can only be made from scratch if they were adopted from an accepted kit, or on agreement with someone making a kit. They cannot be made prior to a kit being created, or when expecting.
11. Kits, once born in roleplay, will automatically age to two moons old, but will age normally from there.
12. Before a she-cat can be deemed a queen in roleplay, she must have had at least one completed thread with the father-to-be. Before the kits are born, she must have a thread with the medicine cat or the father of the kits that leads to the announcement of the situation, and one moon must have passed in roleplay. For the kits to be born, she must have a thread with the medicine cat and/or medicine cat apprentice at bare minimum for the thread the event happens in. This cannot be a one-person thread, as the medicine cat will need to check the kits and help.
13. Queens that go through the process of being such in roleplay get to choose their own litters with the help of the fathered cat. In order for the litter to be done and ready to be born however, a thread must be posted in the adoption board outlining all the kits, even if they are all already taken for staff reference. Before this is done the kits cannot be born. A litter cannot have more than five kits.
14. Once a kit is adopted, you may write their biography even if they are not born yet. However please put their age as “unborn”, it will be corrected by staff once the birthing thread has been completed.
15. No thread requirements are needed before an apprentice can become a warrior. However please take advantage of roleplaying this part of your character’s life and don’t have them waste it by doing nothing.
16. Apprentices are given a mentor by staff upon creation or upon their involvement in clan life if joining or rejoining a clan in character. You can find these pairings in the mentor/apprentices list. If for some reason a mentor is never given, please contact an administrator or character moderator to be given one. If you wish to have a specific pairing you must PM skyy and her socks , alee or @lost and request it. Staff hold the right to deny any requested pairing, especially if it is only demanded in a biography, not requested through a PM.
17. A cat under standard health should not become an elder before 90 moons of age. From this point, it is only when they do not feel they can fully fulfil the requirements of a warrior that they should retire. Every leader will work to find compromises to keep a cat as a warrior as long as possible. This is especially true for young cats with conditions. No cat under 90 moons on CTS is expected to retire to the elder’s den unless they absolutely cannot achieve what needs to be done for warrior’s status, such as being paralysed, suffering from both sight and hearing issues at once, or extreme breathing difficulties. If you are looking for options on how to best utilise your cat with a specific condition, please contact the clan’s leader or skyy and her socks.
18. There is no maximum age for a cat on the site. However, after 120 moons, you should be considering their age and thinking about letting them pass onto StarClan. It is your choice how and when you’d like these sorts of actions to happen, and it is up to the roleplayer to create the thread that their life comes to a close in, and where other cats can respond and have a proper ceremony for the elder.
19. Any mental illnesses, health conditions, disorders or any minor/major disabilities are expected to be portrayed as accurately and respectfully as possible, and with consideration to those who may struggle with those conditions themselves. Staff hold the right to address any member who portrays these in derogatory, inaccurate, ignorant, or offensively stereotypical way and ask for changes to be made. Any member with an issue on how characters of these kinds are portrayed are also welcome to bring these to the staff team to address. Staff hold the right to ask for retirement of certain characters, should compromises not be able to be met or behaviour not changed to better reflect the truth of the condition.
20. Pelt and eye colours must be realistic. Staff will question any combinations they do not believe to be a possibility in cats.
21. Hairless cats can only be created as kittypets, and will not be accepted in any other rank for the current time.
22. Your character’s name should follow a realistic and semi-traditional format. This means a name must be reasoned realistically when they would have gained that element of the name, and match the following format.
23. Histories must be kept realistic. Not every cat has a sob story for a background, not every cat has a clan-wide event that effected them. Everyone has ups and downs, but events in their history if not a known and established clan-wide event should focus on their relationships with other cats, not the whole clan all the time. Histories that include clan-wide abuse/neglect/obliviousness to these issues will not be accepted. A whole clan does not have the same view on a situation even if a few small groups do, and if there is a known issue of abuse the abuser will be found and dealt with harshly for hurting a clan-mate. Remember, a clan are a closely knitted, tight community, who know everyone around them and what is happening within their own territory and camp.
24. Purebred pelt patterns and features are currently permitted, however be aware they will be banned again if the numbers grow too high. This refers to pointed colourings (siamese/burmese), tickled patterns (somali/abysinnian/burmilla), leg length (munchkins), folded ears (scottish fold/american curl), tailless (manx), and other distinct elements commonly only seen in purebreds. So please, try to avoid them as much as possible, especially for adoptions.
25. Big cats, big cat hybrids, wild cats or animals other than feral cats are not allowed to be roleplayed as full-time characters across the site.
26. The following types of characters need staff permission prior to being started in creation. Failure to ask for permission before the completion of the biography will have it denied and needing to be changed. PM skyy and her socks or alee to discuss these characters and gain that permission.
27. You are permitted to edit your character's biographies after they have been accepted, to add to history or personality descriptions, or provide general updates as relationships are established. However, if you do a major modification of key life events, or completely rewrite a whole section, please let a staff member know so we can just doubt check there's no issues popping up.
28. You are not allowed to roleplay the mate of your own character. If they were something in the past but are no longer together, that's fine, however, actively together is not allowed. After all, doesn't that take away the fun of it a bit, to be roleplaying both halves of a couple?[/div][/div][/div]
