The birds chirped above in the tree, perched on one of the many branches. Aspenshade crouched in a bramble bush watching the birds. Her amber eyes wide, pupils to slits. Her paws itched to climb up there and catch the birds but she told herself not to. Aspenshade had been hunting here all morning. She caught a squirrel and two mice and hopefully she would add a juicy starling to her collection.
Usually she can't sit still but with hunting she is perfectly able to remain still to everyone's surprise. If she has a prey in her sites she can remain still for some time. However, with everything else you can forget it about her being still or quiet.
Starlings flew down to the ground from the tree and landed neatly. They began brushing the fallen moist leaves from the previous leaf-fall to get at the worms. Aspenshade bunched her legs and dug her claws in the ground in and out. Lightly she rocked her haunches then took a few light steps closer before going at a fast run. The birds cawed in alarm and flapped in the air to get away. Aspenshade leaped and caught one of the birds with her extended paws. She slammed it to the ground and gave it a quick bite to the throat, killing it instantly.
