The stench of the Thunderpath clogged up his nose. He could barely smell the scent markers he was leaving behind as he went, even when he shoved his nose right next to it. It was just after sunhigh, and the ground was constantly shaking beneath his paws.

Blizzardclaw was extremely glad he'd ordered Ivypaw to stay back in camp. This was always the busiest time of day for monsters, on both sides of the border. As much as he trusted Ivypaw, he was worried that her energy would make her investigate despite him telling her to stay well away. He'd have to make sure he had Venomflight with him when he did finally bring his apprentice around; her reflexes vastly surpassed his. She would pull Ivypaw back before he'd be able to.

The warrior peered out of the shiny disgusting foliage at the side of the Thunderpath, wrinkling his nose and taking quick, shallow breaths. He was looking for movement on the other side, but with all of these monsters, it was proving difficult. A ShadowClan cat could be staring right back at him and he'd never know.

He finally gave up and dived back to safety, taking deeper breaths now. He wasn't exactly on patrol, but he'd wanted to make sure the area was safe. Whether from monsters or ShadowClan, he wasn't sure. He had no reason to think the monsters would behave any differently, and he trusted Rosestar to not invade the territory. But she didn't make the decisions for all of her cats.

A rustle made him freeze and his senses sharpen. Perhaps it was just the effect of his previous thoughts, but his first suspicion was a cat who didn't belong. The prey around here was either crowfood or tasted horribly of grit and smoke, so it wasn't a ThunderClan cat hunting. And ThunderClan cats wouldn't make so much noise even if they weren't hunting, since that would scare off the rest of the prey.

A growl instinctively built in his throat, but he swallowed it and sank into a crouch. With claws unsheathed, he pinpointed the intruder and pounced with a yowl.

The tom had been quietly bustling about trying to escape his persistent apprentice who was ever eager as per norm giving Mousenose the only possible thought to escape sight. The burly warrior stumbled through the thicket of undergrowth that shrouded the forest floor. Mousenose was not stealthy in the least. His size alone made him easy to spot and his heavy paws were like canons going off in a gully, it was clear he gave up stealth long ago in his youth. Silence that was all the tom desired why was it so elusive to him how did he deserve this? A snort cleared out his thick nostrils of his pink nose as he stumbled off south bound toward the stink of the thunderpath.

This was it! Soon, silence would be his to have and maybe a nap would even come to him at this rate. A musing little grin slithered onto the tom's lips as he smugly sauntered off deeper toward the oil like stink of the thunderpath. He could nearly see the glint of the black road off in the distance now. Almost - almost now. Birds swooped low overhead and if he was an eager hunter he'd be able to simply lift his over-sized paw and slap down one of the winged beasts but this was not his goal. Flicking his ears back against his crown he sized up the nearby trees for a perfect one to nestle within.

Mousenose was so intent on his secret mission he hadn't even noticed a fellow scent mixed among the murk of scents. By the time the yowl struck his ears, weight had already landed against his heavy frame causing him to stumble against the brambles at his paws. The shift of weight and being unbalanced caused him to lose his footing and to fall down the steep incline. He growled in frustration sinking his claws into his attacker not to injure the feline but to use the fellow body to prevent injury to himself as they fell down the slope. As they hit the basin, Mousenose jolted his hind limbs into the other cat ripping himself away. He staggered to his paws dragging in a breath as his amber eyes narrowed on - Blizzardclaw. Honestly. Why did starclan hate him.

Mousenose dragged his paw against his furry pelt scouring leaves from the surface. "Jeeze, Blizzardclaw, I nearly threw you onto the thunderpath,' the warrior growled haughily as he stared at the black road just a few feet from where they now stood. Shaking his head he nearly went to lick away the rumble in his pelt but the stink reminded him he should rinse his fur before staining his jowls with filth. "Did you not think to observe before pounce? - Goodness, who trained you, you wild beast," the tom flared his nose dramatically as he plucked yet another leaf from between his ears. So much for peace and quiet.

A feline body fell underneath his paws and if the situation was any different, he would have yelped as they fell towards the Thunderpath. But yelping would be counterproductive in scaring off the intruder, so he withheld it and kept his claws into the cat's fur.

The cat held onto him as they fell and, once landed, jammed their hind paws into Blizzardclaw's stomach. His breath was driven out of him as he stumbled away and realized, oh great, it was Mousenose. Immediately his hackles smoothed, knowing it was a Clanmate. Mousenose set about getting the dead leaves off of his person as he groused, "Jeeze, Blizzardclaw, I nearly threw you onto the Thunderpath."

Psh, yeah, okay. If anyone would have been thrown into that death trap, it would have been Mousenose. He was the hunter, Blizzardclaw was the fighter, he had zero chance of winning. But Blizzardclaw would let him keep thinking this way. "Did you not think to observe before you pounced? Goodness, who trained you, you wild beast?"

Mousenose's namesake flared as he continued to fix his appearance and Blizzardclaw finally had breath back to respond. "Me? What about you? Stomping around like a fox in a fit! One would think you didn't know any better, which is precisely why I thought you'd be an intruder. Only ShadowClan would make that much noise, or a rogue that wasn't used to the undergrowth."

A monster roared passed, spitting gravel and fumes out from under their great big paws. Blizzardclaw had to dig his claws into the ground as the foul wind whipped around them and had to raise his voice to be heard. "Come on, we have to get out of here! We can claw each other's ears off where the monsters can't see us!"

In case Mousenose hadn't heard him, he jerked his head toward the rise where they'd fallen and gestured for Mousenose to go first.

Mousenose merely rolled his eyes at the comment not daring to deny it because he was quite aware of his stumbling around. Instead, he chose to bore his eyes into the tom's flank as if he was sputtering stupidity. The ground began to tremble under paw. A monster roared past the two felines with a breeze ripping at their pelts while spitting gravel forward like the pelting hail. Blizzardclaw spat another half winded reply that Mousenose merely half heartedly listened to.

"Come on, we have to get out of here! We can claw each other's ears off where the monsters can't see us!" All Mousenose could think was as if these creatures cared about him or the other tom's existence. His paws remained firm for a moment as his eyes idly followed Blizzardclaw's form as he gestured up the way they had fallen. 'Hmm, you do realize, I'm by no means some slender majestic beast. Starclan made me to be a big beautiful brute!' he mumbled as he jerked his head skyward and skirted his form up the ravine side. The warrior's heavy paws made good stepping places for the fellow warrior as he made his way to the top.

'Plus let's be frank, I'm perfect that way - also if one more apprentice bugged me in the camp I was going to lose my mind. I..-I--I had to escape Blizzardclaw.' He groaned as his eyes expanded as if to imagine the horror. With a grin of carefully placed amusement the tom tilted his head downward to offer his scruff to help the tom breach the edge of the top of the ravine with ease.

Hi everyone,
This announcement is being made with an extremely heavy heart, and we know it may not be a popular one. However, Alee and I have made the decision that we are going to be closing Chasing the Sun by the end of the month. Originally, we were going to wait till the end of the activity check before making the call either way, as no doubt some of you picked up from my introduction to the check itself. But, after seeing some of the most recent hiatuses and their updates, and talking with a few members who will not be continuing on the site, we’ve decided at this stage in time, it’s the right time to bring things to a close.

Chasing the Sun is a play-by-post roleplay based on the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. We are set in the original forest in an alternative universe from the books, where SkyClan were never forced from the forest and the characters we have known and loved have not existed. We have a 150-word minimum and a sandbox roleplay setting that does not have an overarching plot, only those that members form together. The world is there to shape by the characters than inhabit it, growing the forest into something unique from what we have seen before. THUNDERCLAN VERSES BADGERS
Due to a change of high ranks that is to take place, this plot has been updated and modified. if you were originally involved, please make sure to check the thread and voice if you still want involvement as soon as possible! The Forest Prince is the the current thread leading into the start of this plot.

WIND/SHADOW VERSES ROGUES
Redstar, Rosestar and their fellow high ranks of WindClan and ShadowClan have met on the border of the clans and formed a truce, after it has become aware that a group of rogues has become a threat. Both leaders have addressed this issue in their clan meetings, with Rosestar setting the rule that until the rogues have been dealt with, cats are not to leave camp alone.

WINDCLAN - MEDICINE CAT PLOT
A significant change has taken place in the direction of this plot, and the main post has now been edited to reflect such. We are still looking for WindClan cats to be involved, so if you have a cat you’d like to have something happen to, places are still open.

SKYCLAN VERSES RIVERCLAN
With the border clash narrowly avoided by Pinestar’s intervention, steam has yet to ease, as the SkyClan patrol stand in camp to address the clan getting too ambitious. Meanwhile, with the change in leadership of RiverClan causing discomfort across the clan, there is no doubt that everyone is on edge. Another clash is imminent.
