Sunlight, bright and hard, burned down from its peak in the sky, bouncing off the tall, harsh cliffs of the rocky mountains around them, breaking through the edges of the trees with little care for the life between. Without even a hint of breeze, it made for a harsh walk, one step in front of the other being the easiest way to keep going on. Despite the heat, and the harsh weather though, Tiny kept moving, the sunlight glinting across the smooth metal of the pokeball she’d been cradling most of the walk from the middle of route two. The heat and Raven’s complaining had yet to deter her from letting her mind wander.
Not that they needed to keep walking for much longer. As the mountains grew taller and rockier, their path led them on toward the very edges of Pewter City. It wasn’t a new place, by any means. She could remember when they were much younger, riding bikes up along routes one and two. But, it did mark something significant. It was the first time they’d been there since they’d well and truly decided to leave home and take on the world. This time, they were there as a first stop, for Raven to take on the gym seriously, and for Tiny to make sure he didn’t collapse out of embarrassment if he failed… again.
However, all the walking did make her consider their companion more seriously, and as they made their way through the pillars of the city entrance, onto the cobbled stone path, she came to a stop. “Raven,” she started hoarsely, before pausing to clear her throat. It really had been a while since they’d said anything. “If we’re going to take Sparky and Whirly all the way with us, should we really keep them in their pokeballs all the time?” Her gaze drifted down to the red and white sphere, her fingers gently running across the smooth metal. “I feel bad, making them stay in there all the time.”
