Silverpaw crouched in the sand, nose pointed skyward as she sniffed water in the air. Thunder grumbled in the distance, too far to be of any real concern at the moment but she didn't relish the idea of wet fur. She shifted, glancing around as she waited for Ashpaw. Her life was waiting, it seemed; too much waiting. Waiting to be a warrior, waiting or sparring partners, waiting to be declared worthy.
Climbing to her feet, she paced back and forth only to bristle at a bird that landed on a nearby log. Wind swept through the hollow, blowing bits of dirt and grass slips into her fur. She closed her eyes and tried to ignore the grainy feeling.
"One, two, three, four," she counted slowly, focusing on the words.
"Oh, bird feathers!" she cursed and set about, furiously grooming her fur, stopping every so often to make sure Ashpaw hadn't arrived yet. She could not bear the thought of being thought too prim to fight but there could be no fight if her fur was unseemly. It was such a problem.
