Light shined down from the sun, which was just past its peak in its travel across the sky. The day wasn't exceedingly hot, thought it was warmer than the last few days had been. With the exception of a few small clouds, the azure sky was clear. A light breeze drifted through the moors, only visible as it pushed the tall grass down in its wake. With the lack of clouds to block the sun and the breeze barely noticeable, the day felt a lot hotter than it actually was.
Though Murkpaw definitely felt the heat of the day, he wasn't one to complain that much. The apprentice was too distracted in his observations of the surrounding area to actually complain, anyways. He'd been in the area multiple times in the past, he always felt the need to examine his surroundings thoroughly. Plus, the area had a general beauty that made him feel much more at ease. The tabby tom was following behind his mentor, Bluebird, only about a tail-length to her side and just a step or two behind her. Their pace wasn't a hard one, probably due to a mixture of his low physical prowess and the heat of the day.
With his attention was set near the edge of the moors, Murkpaw didn't notice a small opening in the ground, the start of one of the numerous tunnels in the area. He looked down just in time to shift his footing, managing to catch the edge of the hole. While he still stumbled, the act did save him from completely falling off his paws. In his efforts to catch himself, he barely grazed by his mentor's side.
Quickly correcting his stride, he fell back into place, once more about a tail-length away from his mentor. As he fell back in step with Bluebird, he uttered a small "Sorry," the words quiet, but easily audible. After another quick glance around the area, he focused his attention on his mentor, speaking up once again. "So what are we going to be working on today?"
