it hadn't taken her or the two that had joined her to arrive at the designated meeting place along the abandoned thunder path. With it being the border between windclan and shadowclan, Redstar had felt somewhere close to the area to where the rogues would constantly cross would be fitting. Redstar didn't know weather or not shadowclan actually came this far out to check borders, for if they did they would've known about the rogues plaguing the two territories. That in itself was on Rosestar, but when this was taking a large toll on windclan it became her problem to ask for help. There wasn't a doubt in her mind that if Rosestar chose not to meet or refused to help that if her clan began to die out due to this threat redstar would stand there smugly and watch as the shadowclan leader would beg for help.

"swiftfoot, do you believe that Rosestar will show?" the ginger-pelted leader asked one of her companions. Having brought both her deputy and medicine cat was a gamble for risk of ambush, but she trusted their thoughts and questions. "my main concern for asking Rosestar for help is not to loose so many of our own to these rogues." redstar stated with a hint of sadness in her voice at the prospect of losing any of her warriors to this threat. At least with shadowclan they had more of a fighting chance and the more warriors there to help the less anyone would lose. Right?

the brown pelted she cat had her own pressing concerns about asking shadowclan for their aid. indeed, as they awaited by the foot of the thunderpath, its roiling and acrid stench touching at memories long since buried, swiftfoot couldn't keep the tension from out of her muscles. amber tinted optics surveyed the murky gloom of the swamp beyond, and her lip curled back as wind brushed past her cheek, carrying with it the trademark smell of shadowclan scent markers.

"you know how I feel about shadowclan, redstar," the deputy rumbled, in response to her leader's question. "but the situation remains the same - if rosestar has any sense in that thick skull of hers, then she'll show." her eyes lidded, a gleam of satisfaction awaking in their depths; this was a problem that shadowclan needed help with, just as much as windclan did.

truthfully, she felt on edge; shadowclan were about as trustworthy as the rats from carrionplace, but she supposed there were times when pride - and even caution - had to be placed aside, in the desire of combined forces. even swiftfoot begrudgingly understood that two clans together were stronger than one. a tail tip twitched at the thought - windclan was strong on its own merits, and she hadn't a bone in her body that doubted the deep imbued strength and spirit of her homeland, but the rogues were admittedly becoming quite the problem.

it was just a meeting - one meeting wouldn't hurt. besides, redstar knew what she was doing; if there was anyone she trusted in windclan, it was their intelligent and charismatic leader. she sucked in a deep breath, deciphering the different smells that rolled thick over the scent glands on the roof of her mouth. all she could taste however was the acrid fumes and sticky, sun-baked tar of the thunderpath.

Beetleberry expelled a small breath, lifting his head to squint at the clouded skies above. Why he’d been dragged along to this pointless meeting, the medicine cat wasn’t sure. Then again, he hardly understood Redstar’s insistence to even communicate with ShadowClan on the issue. Surely such talented warriors could take on a few rogues without much issue. Pah. It was evidence of their pathetic nature as fighters. Even so, they didn’t need to drag him into their dirty work. The tom shuffled his paws, turning his green gaze toward the leader and deputy, posed and ready near the edge of the thunderpath. The thick, unnatural stench of it clung to his nose, enough to make the medicine cat snort.

Not that he cared. This clan of warriors could be demolished for all he cared. Those who were worth saving he’s save himself. Maybe then he’d bring WindClan to the realisation about where their power actually was. "You know how I feel about ShadowClan, Redstar.” Swiftfoot spoke up, and Beetleberry did his best not to roll his eyes. Surely one of the few things they shared. However, his dislike stretched across multiple clans. Not just their carrion-smelling border clan. “But the situation remains the same - if Rosestar has any sense in that thick skull of hers, then she'll show."

The black tom force himself to offer the two a small smile, ears pricking straight. “Hey, come on Swiftfoot, there’s no need to be like that,” he meowed gently, a small hint of a tease to his words as green eyes focused sharply on the deputy. “I’m sure we have nothing to worry about. Two clans are better than one when it comes to defusing issues!” Hardly, but, he supposed that was the appropriate response. Medicine cats being beyond borders and whatnot. He frankly didn’t care if they did show or not. He might actually have something to do in the day if they didn’t and Redstar took it personally.

Rosestar was glad her clan was courteous enough to bring the messenger from WindClan to her rather than shredding their pelt on sight. She figured Redstar would want to talk soon. The russet-furred leader knew from her trip to the Moonstone that something dark was on the horizon for both clans, and although she was loathe to work with the ginger tabby after her rude remarks at the last Gathering, Rosestar knew they would fare better as one. WindClan was a smaller clan with many young warriors, but what they lacked in numbers and experience they made up for in sheer tenacity.

She padded quietly along their damp territory, the disgusting tang of the Thunderpath growing stronger. Rosestar hoped that Redstar would notice the ShadowClan scent markers were particularly strong there now. The clan of the north wind had doubled up on patrols, both she and Onyxfeather had made sure of that. There would be nothing WindClan could accuse ShadowClan for this time—not that the last accusations held any weight.

Rosestar glanced back at Sparrowpelt with a knowing gaze, the tabby had accompanied her on her visit with StarClan and likely felt the same chill of horror she did. The dark red-brown she-cat held her head high though, no visible signs of terror or anxiety on her face. Her emerald eyes remained the epitome of calm.
They arrived at the border with Redstar, Swiftfoot, and Beetleberry already waiting for them. While Rosestar expected Redstar and Beetleberry to be at least cordial, she could not fathom that bringing Swiftfoot to any cross-clan meeting was a good idea. The brown she-cat was rude enough at Gatherings, and that was with a truce.

Rosestar sat down and motioned with a flick of her long, feathery tail for Onyxfeather and Sparrowpelt to do the same, if they so wished. “Redstar. I’m glad you’ve called this meeting. We have much to discuss.”

Sparrowpelt was not looking forward to this meeting. The terror that crackled in her head, behind her eyes and raced through her veins was something she didn’t want to deal with. She was a medicine cat, not a warrior- she had no idea how to fight for her clan with a useless lame eye she was given. Rosestar had been kind enough to deal with her anxiety- a strong leader that Sparrowpelt felt more and more respect for. Did her mentor previously deal with any problems such as this? Was that the reason his heart stopped? She didn’t know- but all she did know is that this was a problem and it was circling her home. She had to be strong for Crowpaw and make sure that nothing happened to him. It was not a mother’s job, but a mentor’s job, and if it was one thing she could do was protect her apprentice.

Beetleberry and she would mostly be banding together to treat wounds if worst came to worst and she hoped that Beetleberry saw her at least slightly competent. Her ear flicked as the acrid tang of the road brought her back to the present. The smell always was disgusting- but the smell of ShadowClan was just as strong. It made her nose wrinkle with two competing scents but she tried to push that away since Rosestar and Onyxfeather didn’t need to be bungled down by such a weak thing. She did her best to keep up with such powerful strides but she didn’t have the muscle that the other cats did so she was doing her best to keep steady with their pace. It was faster than her normal walking pace and internally she snarled at the idea of having to keep this up for another moon. She could barely run coherently, StarClan’s sake.

She needed to ask Rosestar or one of the warriors to at least give her some tips on her being mostly coherent if she needed to fight. Sparrowpelt knew that wasn’t her purpose but she needed to fight for her home and that fear was anxiously becoming a reality. She gave Rosestar a small timid smile as she saw the cat look behind her knowingly. She knew she was out of shape but she was trying! She felt shame burn her fur slightly but she pushed it away. The brown tabby knew she was going to have to put this sideline business to the side and make sure she thought about her clan. It was a hard position for her to be in where she didn’t feel like she was good enough…but she was determined that if she went out- her name was going to be stamped in every elder’s story for the next five generations and no one was going to stop her.

Possibly rogues, but that’s beside the point.

As they came onto the agreed meeting place, Sparrowpelt swallowed anxiously- not liking seeing Swiftfoot there at all. They were supposed to make this a profitable meeting- and with that sun-burned head of hers that wasn’t going to do much. She briefly looked at Beetleberry and gave a dip of her head in respect- doing the same for Redstar as they sat down. Sparrowpelt didn’t know if it was welcomed, but she was trying to respectful next to the cats who tear her limb from limb. They were all much more physically fit than her. StarClan, help her- was she the most physically-challenged here? Her eyes flicked towards Rosestar as she spoke and she took a small intake of nervous breath and waited for this meeting to begin.

"youknow how i feel about shadowclan, redstar. but the situation remains the same - if rosestar has any sense in that thick skull of hers, then she'll show." the brown pelted deputy spoke, responding to redstar's own words and question. she wanted the support of both swiftfoot and beetleberry on the decision to ask the shadowclan leader for help, but that didn't seem like it was going to get very far. if windclan knew what was good for them, they'd ask for larger numbers to stop the rogues from terrorizing both clans. then again, the thought remained that if the shadowclan leader didn't show, windclan would run each and every rogue into shadowclan territory for good no matter how many they lost.

quickly, redstar turned her attention to the black tom that was there as well, the windclan medicine cat, beetleberry. while he was an odd one, he was always friendly with the clan which was what counted in the end. "hey, come on swiftfoot, there's no need to be like that," beetleberry commented gently, the tease evident in his words as he spoke to the brown deputy. "i'm sure we have nothing to worry about. two clans are better than one when it comes to defusing issues!" while redstar liked the optimism that came from the medicine cat, she couldn't help but feel as if there was always something to worry about no matter what was going on.

by the time redstar was to open her jaws to speak in response to both of her ranks, her blue gaze caught sight of something coming from across the border and three shadows began to form in the distance. three that she could only assume were rosestar, onyxfeather, and sparrowpelt by the similar- however slightly darkened- pelts. "redstar, i'm glad you've called this meeting. we have much to discuss." the shadowclan leader sated as she sat down, her tail flicking her tail to her two companions. "that we do rosestar," the ginger warrior stated blandly as her eyes searched the shadowclan felines for anything she could use in this conversation.

"tell me, rosestar, what do you know about the rogues that keep going back and forth between our territories?"

ah, dear beetleberry. he'd always been sticking that filthy nose of his in others business. now, now, she couldn't recall ever directing her speech at him. distaste swirled at the pit of her belly, though the deputy forced herself to keep under control; last thing redstar needed was unnecessary drama, especially at such a crucial time. an ear flicked back in dismissive response to the medicine cat's warm words, and that was all the acknowledgement he deserved.

despite this, the last part of his comment touched briefly upon her mind. yes, two clans might be better than one - but is the other clan trustworthy? before she could think further on the troubling subject, there was a rustle and a flash of fur; and soon they were joined along the borders by rosestar, sparrowpelt and onyxfeather. immediately she straightened herself up, willowy neck held high, a gleam of pride alighting in her amber orbs. "redstar. i am glad you have called this meeting. we have much to discuss."

trustworthy or not, the fact remained that rogues were becoming quite the trouble. and beetleberry, for as much as she despised him, did hold some truth within those thick words of his; whatever the outcome of today's meeting, two clans was indeed much more of a powerful force to be reckoned with than just one.

whiskers twitched as redstar began to speak. "that we do, rosestar." There was a pause, and to swiftfoot, the atmosphere felt almost like crackling static; she shifted, unease rippling like maggots beneath her pelt, and for a moment silver talons slipped from their sheaths, prepared for any initiation of combat on the other side. that feeling was redirected however, when redstar continued on, "tell me, rosestar. what do you know about the rogues that keep going back and forth between our territories?"

"pah!" she knew it was rude, but her voice escaped with force. the tension she was feeling intensified, but now it had slunk away from the shadowclan posse, deflected instead onto the cowardly lone cats thieving from their territories. "that trouble making bunch. give 'em a few more moons and they'll start thieving from our camps, given the chance." ears flattened against her skull, claws dug deeper into the rotten earth below.

they moved silently through the territory, no words were exchanged on their trek to the windclan border, save for the knowing glance cast over the leader's shoulder. the scent of the thunderpath was long evident before it emerged in their field of vision, like a division in the land. it was here that the shadowclan swamps began to die away, drying in the heat of the sun, into the cracked earth of straw-like moors and rolling hills. onyxfeather could feel the tension mounting and rattling in his bones - he prayed to starclan that redstart would not bring that forsaken deputy of hers. the tongue swiftfoot possessed begged nothing more than for a force like onyxfeather to put her in her place. then again, redstarts civility was not much better, following last moon's gathering.

he set his jaw and followed dutifully behind rosestar, moving swiftly and silently like the shadow which his ebony pelt resembled. the deputy's lanky limbs and tall stature offered him a natural authority, which paled in his cool and controlled temperament. rosestar was the commander of this show, and onyxfeather was perfectly content with sitting back in careful observation. after all, there was so much to learn from these enemies-turned-comrade.

they were in sight now, fire, mud, and shadow waiting patiently at their destined meeting spot. onyxfeather slowed his pace as rosestar did so, and allowed their shadowclan representative to give the obligatory greetings. he lowered down on his haunches at rosestar's flick of the tail, and watched the windclan counterparts carefully. there was no warmth or eagerness in his golden-honey eyes, which barred the tense hostility and desire to goad at their fragile egos. the words that formed from the leader's mouths were trivial, and thus far not entirely to informational.

swiftfoot's shifting caught onyxfeather's attention, his yellow eyes flicked toward the fury she-cat. he noted the extension of her claws - nervous now are we, swiftoot? he tilted his head and made no effort to hide the curiosity in his gaze as he inspected swiftfoot's reaction. onyxfeather wanted to make his evident that he was aware of her, watching her, like some specimen to be studied before slaughter and dissection. the deputy was aware of swiftfoot's explosive nature and lack of tactic with her words. he wanted to pry into her, ruffle those fury feathers, and make a spectacle of what little control she had.

yet unlike swiftfoot, onyxfeather was disciplined, and held his tongue dutifully. body language alone could work just as well, he reckoned. besides, swiftfoot could make a fool of herself without his help. and so he flashed but the slightest ghost of a grin and looked back to redstart. "tell me, rosestar, what do you know about the rogues that keep going back and forth between our territories?" yellow eyes narrowed - if redstart thought she could command control she had another thing coming. onyxfeather had to remind himself that this was for the safety of both of their clans, rosestar would reveal no more information than was necessary.

it was swiftfoot piping up now, in turn of rosestar. no surprise on that front. onyxfeather's whiskers quivered in marvelled amusement. it was no secret that the deputy was normally stone cold in his dealings with the other clans, disciplined and careful to reveal nothing of his internal workings. but this was different, he wanted his windclan counterpart to know just how comical her dramatic telling really was. still, he held his tongue.

Swiftfoot flicked an ear at his words, and the black medicine cat forced his fur to stay flat. By the name of StarClan, he was going to end that she-cat one day. He would take pleasure in it. Thinking she was so superior that his words were to be dismissed without comment. He gave no care to the ShadowClan cats that approached. Instead, his green gaze stuck to Swiftfoot, and for a moment, he let the pleasant look drop off his face, and fixed the she-cat with a stern, dark look, green eyes cold. It only lasted a moment, before he turned to face the upcoming cats, the warm look back onto his face, regardless of why they were there.

Sparrowpelt dipped her head, and Beetleberry returned the gesture, eased slightly by the familiar sight of his fellow medicine cat. At least he wasn’t surrounded completely by idiotic warriors. “Redstar. I’m glad you’ve called this meeting. We have much to discuss.” The medicine cat rested back on his haunches, and looked toward Redstar. "That we do, Rosestar. Tell me, Rosestar, what do you know about the rogues that keep going back and forth between our territories?" He was going to fall asleep if this was the tone for the whole bloody meeting. He had better things to do. While he certainly wasn’t fond of dealing with bodies that had been eaten by what he was certain was another cat, maybe it would pull the immature warriors back into line.

Who knew, maybe they could even bring those rogues on side and use them against the other clans. If only Redstar thought that much. "Pah! That trouble making bunch. Give 'em a few more moons and they'll start thieving from our camps, given the chance." Beetleberry tilted his head, and looked at Swiftfoot, a small twitch of a smirk on his face, and a quirked eyebrow. Since when was your name Rosestar, Swiftfoot? He asked to himself, doing his best to keep his claws firmly sheathed. That would not be taken well, no doubt. Instead, the tom turned his attention to Onyxfeather curiously, waiting for the ShadowClan leader to speak again.

Rosestar felt Redstar's sweeping blue gaze on her and she would not back down, she would not break. ShadowClan was strong, and WindClan clearly needed its aid. The russet-furred she-cat kept her green gaze proud and stern, befitting of her clan. As kind as she was she knew being strong in the eyes of her clan was important. She would offer her compassion and strength but she would do so on her terms.

She quirked an eyebrow as Swiftfoot rudely interrupted her, and her whiskers quivered for a moment-- a sign of a bit of a smile. Swiftfoot could never contain herself, could she? It was evident enough at gatherings given how widely disliked she was across the five clans. Her outburst rolled off Rosestar's back like water on a RiverClan cat, it was forgotten and forgiven.

Rosestar curled her feathery tail around her paws as she spoke. She would not stand for Redstar subtly accusing this to be ShadowClan's fault. If WindClan needed aid, they needed to show respect. "I know that our borders have been extremely tight against them." She spared a thankful glance at Onyxfeather, who had been working tirelessly to make sure of that. "Some of these cats could be some from the group that attacked us about twelve moons ago, but those that survived were cowards that turned tail and ran. They must be organized differently." Leaftalon, while he did have some leadership qualities, was always blinded by his own rage to see the tactful plan ahead.

"They have also been scented near the Moonstone-- it was strong and recent. Sparrowpelt and I recently took a trip there. I know WindClan has a special regard for Highstones," the legend of Mothflight was a favorite for kits regardless of clan, "but this poses a threat to all clans and especially our medicine cats if we let the rogues take StarClan from us." She bit her tongue when it came to StarClan's thoughts on the matter. That would be for Sparrowpelt to bring up. While the ruddy leader was on the trip, she found as a leader it was not her place to speak of StarClan in this meeting when her medicine cat could do so much better.

Her bright green eyes squinted at the cats from the moors, thoughts in her mind reeling and clicking at Swiftfoot's outburst, Redstar asking what they knew... "Is there something important about them that you know, Redstar?"
