The morning sun offered no comfort for the small trembling cat. There'd been too many strange noises during the night to sleep and her belly was gnawing at her to viciously to even worry about the strange creatures of the night anyway. It grumbled and growled at her now. How long had it been since she'd eaten? Two days, three? Too long. Why had she ever tried to follow those two troublesome kittens out into the road anyway? Panda groaned, moving her white paws reluctantly. Not that you could tell they were white. Her black and white coat was all dirty and tousled. The white was gray and the black was more of a dusty brown than anything. She'd had too much to worry about to groom. Now, she had to try and find herself some food. Where would she even begin? Looking around, the she-cat decided to follow the closest treeline. Of course, it wasn't long before she was hopelessly lost again.
Utterly defeated, Panda slammed her rear end down, humphing at her circumstances. She was beginning to doubt that she would even survive. She'd already tried to find her way back home, but after a while she'd given that up to. It was more important that she found food and water. She sat for a long time and just as her eyes were beginning to droop and the entire world started to dim and fade, something caught her attention. Her head snapped up and her ears swiveled. There was a squirrel not too far from her. If she was careful, she might could catch it. Not that she'd even been able to catch one before. Several would come into her human's yard each day and every time she was let out, she'd go for them but to no avail. Even still, she had to try.
Crouching down low, her tail twitched behind her nervously. The squirrel seemed content to forage. Luckily, she hadn't made enough noise to spook it yet. Desperation kept her still. When she finally decided that she'd waited long enough, she launched herself toward the small chattering creature, bounding toward it as fast as her deprived form could go. As soon as she reached it, paws coming down onto the ground with not near enough force, it darted away. The young cat let out a tiny squeak of failure and watched the squirrel fly up the nearest tree. That settled it. She was going to starve.
