Well, well, it seemed the forest had finally made its way to the thick of the new-leaf season. Sunhigh had just descended on the forest, yet the golden rays held none of the harshness of green-leaf just yet. Sprouts and new tender leaves hung upon aged and grizzled branches, some still dripping with the remains of rain shower the night before. The entire forest smelled fresh and clean, a great way to wake up if Copperstrike ever knew one. What made it even better was finding one of his favorite sunning places still free for the taking after a particularly grueling hunting trip. Honestly he wasn't certain how he ended up on the same patrols with Stoatclaw of all cats, especially with how the Clan knew full well of their shared animosity. It took everything Copperstrike had not to take the matter to Falconstar, especially when Stoatclaw hadn't done anything of noteworthy to complain about. Thankfully the most the elder tom did was just glare at him when he thought he wasn't looking. Though if Stoatclaw ever did say anything, particularly about Peachpaw, Copperstrike would not be responsible for his actions regarding that subject. A great yawn overtook the fiery ginger tom as he stretched out over the sunning area, laying on his side and closing his eyes in contentment. He resolved to push every thought of his bitter Clanmate from his mind. Today was too beautiful a day to brood on such matters. The only thing that would make it better was if his equally beautiful mate, Lilysong, decided to join him. Or even one of his four darlings: Weaselpaw, Sorrelpaw, Almondpaw or Peachpaw. All four of them were doing wonderfully in their studies, and every time Copperstrike passed by the Medicine Cat's Den all Blueberry seemed to talk about was how natural Peachpaw seemed to be taking to her duties. Or maybe that's all he heard because that's all he listened to - biased and all that good stuff.
Not for the first time he wondered about how Stoatclaw could ever have turned his back on such a wonderful daughter.
Unbidden, memories of Copperstrike's own father appeared in his mind - an aged but resilient warrior who took every opportunity till his dying moment to make sure his sons' memories of him were good and happy. Sorrelfrost, Copperstrike's mother, had moved on from her mate's death by age, but every now and then he would see a shadow cross the molly's eyes and know exactly what she was thinking about. Hopefully she'd find love again, maybe not as passionate and intense as her relationship with Metalheart, but something just as good. Copperstrike didn't know what he'd do without LIlysong, and was always in awe of his mother and how she managed to move on so gracefully. But such an experience, as well as his own against the badger that killed his mentor and scarred his body, also lent the young warrior a good grip on how precious time was, which was why he wanted to spend as much time with his family as he could possibly have. Reopening his green eyes to the world around him, the ginger tabby had the thought to go and find Lilysong himself. He also had something he wanted to discuss with her, and the sooner the better. Rising to his paws, the vibrant ginger tom stepped forward towards the midst of the camp, the sun playing against his fiery coat and setting it alight, like a fragment of his namesake sparkling in the rays. Approaching the nearest cat he could find, he purred out a greeting, friendly sparkles dancing in his eyes. "Good afternoon, friend. Excuse my interruption, but have you seen Lilysong today?" he asked.========================
