the two-leg tar of the thunderpaths clung to her pads, grit and grime pinching between the webs of her tiny toes. it bit and chew at her feet with each step, and the soft foliage of the forest floor only brought more attention to the discomfort of the sticky stones wedged into her pads. despite having ventured the nooks and crannies of twolegplace for some time, she never quite got use to the harshness of the land -- she was convinced she never would -- and so, her journey into the trees today ( she didn't need a reason, but a sense of purpose was always nice! ) was in search of water which was alive and tinkling, unlike the stagnant puddles in twolegplace which were often gray and riddled with sadness.
pearl set forth through the trees, taking advantage of the mid-day sun to light her path. per usual, she was overwhelmed by the multitude of scents that struck the roof of her mouth, telling her tales of butterflies and cats before her, of unnamed creatures that lumbered through the brambles, and the sweet taste of fresh, stench free air. most importantly, the crisp, flowing smell of water overcame her and the thin she-cat's path shifted in the direction. it was a new venture for her, this route, as her visits to the forest were always fleeting and quick -- she had met only a couple of cats, ones that thankfully, had yet to claw her matted fur from her hide. pearl would hate for today to be any different, especially when her goal today was just to ease the ache in her paws before she was on her way.
it felt like she had been hobbling for ages before the sound of the river reached her ears and the loner's pace increased to a trot before she finally wound up at the peaty bank of the river. a huge sigh of relief left the malnourished girl's jaws before she slowly extended a forepaw, dipping it into the smooth current and allowing the water to cascade in gentle eddies around her limb. almost instantly, the burn in her paw was washed away by the cool liquid and she lowered herself to the ground, giggling almost quietly to herself as mud squelched and tangled into the thick fur of her chest. though, as she stretched out her other paw to join the first, a glimmer in the sunlight caught her eye and the little dreamer's whiskers twitched with curiosity.
a minnow streaked through the shallows, swimming circles in graceful patterns that pearl could only dream of imitating. without thought, pearl lashed out at it, feeling her paw skimp against its scaly surface and before long, the she-cat was back on her paws, following the silver glimmer across the bank -- well, until it disappeared into the center of the river where she stared forlornly, ginger lips turned downward into a pout.
there had to be more, right?
