embers ★ | the coals are beginning to glow when it's all said and done, we'll shine like the sun the little tortoiseshell tom arched his back and yawned, greeting the sunny day with exuberance. though he'd been named as a kit for his bright orange patches, the vivid sun-glow eyes didn't hurt either in making his name, 'pumpkinpatch,' completely representative. he blinked a few times, surprised and delighted by the sunny day. finally, newleaf was in full swing! what to do with the day? hunting, perhaps. or just a jaunt through the woods?? excitement coursed through him. he rapidly became distracted by thoughts of his favorite season, greenleaf. of course, leaf-fall was exciting too... and leafbare had its perks, like snow. and newleaf, all the pretty flowers popping up everywhere! his daydreams of juicy voles and summer time rain showers were brought to an unpleasant halt by a stinging pain radiating through his shoulder. pumpkinpatch tried furiously to twist his head over his shoulder to get at it, but it was just out of reach, behind his shoulder blade. the little tom growled, absolutely infuriated with this new development. a tick! he was sure of it. that was one harbinger of spring he most certainly did not welcome with joy. the little pest was sucking out all of his blood, no doubt! he was probably doomed to become a vampire kitty or something. come to think of it, he had been feeling a bit... off. woozy, perhaps? pumpkinpatch had attributed his unsteadiness to having just woken up, but as he padded out of the warriors den, he realized he was a bit dizzy as well. time to pay a visit to blueberry, he supposed. hurrying off toward the medicine cat's den, pumpkinpatch nearly tripped over himself. the sky was blue, the birds were chirping all throughout the woods, insects were chattering and buzzing all around, and it was making him heady. he wanted to be out there, chasing after squirrels, splashing through puddles from yesterday's storm, leaping after butterflies, thoroughly enjoying the day. stupid tick. "hey, blueberry, ya here?? need some help... oof!" the tom paused as he nearly tripped over an herb stock, sending leaves flying about. "er... whoops, sorry about that blue- oh, peachpaw!" the young tortoiseshell warrior only just noticed that blueberry wasn't in, but his apprentice was. he was rather fond of the she-cat, but then, who wasn't? she was an adorable little thing, sweeter, he guessed, than the fruit for which she'd been named. "hey peachpaw... sorry about the herbs, i can get you some more, really," he mumbled awkwardly, feeling his fur heat up. he gave the cute apprentice a lopsided grin. "hey so.. i think i have a tick, on my shoulder?" he clumsily tried to gesture with his head, straining his neck to twist around. "it hurts. and i'm kinda dizzy. i can't quite get it though, so i was hoping you had something to make the lil bugger fall off." he continued to smile brightly at her. "gorgeous day, isn't it? i was really hoping to get out in the woods, but, ah, this is holding me up a bit. hey!" he seemed suddenly struck by an excellent idea. "you should come with me, once we're done with this nasty business!! whatdya say? it can't be much fun being cooped up in this little den all day, can it?"
