The moon glowed high in the sky tonight. All the stars are glittering. A kingdom of isolation and it felt like she was... quite frankly she felt like the coward she knew she was. It was the middle of the night and everyone with a lick of sense was already asleep. All except for the guards, of course, and StarClan knows who or where they were.
Snores permeated the air, as loud and rumbling as the river. Normally such a loud and stuttering sound would drive Pollenpaw out of her mind, but tonight it was a comfort. Tonight it was a reminder that she wasn't alone and she was among her Clanmates. Because tonight, she was going to do something she hadn't been able to make herself do in four moons.
She was going to leave the camp.
Or well, she was trying to. Pollenpaw sat in the middle of camp, uncaring for once about if anyone could be watching. Her eyes weren't looking anxiously around for anyone, so someone might very well be spectating from their dens, wondering what in StarClan's name the puny coward thought she was doing. It was against the rules for apprentices to leave camp in the middle of the night. She could be stuck caring for the elders for a moon, until the next Gathering.
Which wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that it was counterproductive to what she wanted to achieve tonight. Pollenpaw was seven moons old, had been a 'paw for a moon already, and the only thing she'd managed to learn was how to squeeze water out of moss the other apprentices had already brought in and lay it in layers to make the most comfortable nests for the elders and queens. That ended tonight!
Pollenpaw took a deep breath and slid down into a crouch. She had to take this slowly. She WOULD leave the camp, if only to just the outside of the barrier. Inch by tiny inch she made her way forward, eyes trained on the entrance. She was almost there. Almost there. Just another step... and...
And something rustled outside of the barrier, sending Pollenpaw back into her senses. She squeaked and scrambled backwards, eyes wide as she waited for whoever was on the other side to come back so they can do her a favor and send her back to her nest because oh StarClan she could not do this.
