It was in a whirl of sunlight and gleaming white fur that Locustflight pounced at Fallingsnow, feeling strangely light. Grinning, the sandy ginger tom managed to grab Fallingsnow's shoulders though he kept his claws sheathed. He felt her return the grab and for some strange reason the action, the whole situation really, caused a laugh to bubble up from Locustflight. It wasn't overly loud or boisterous and in fact it was quite a rare sound. In general Locustflight wasn't good at emotions or the art of expressing them. Laughter and giggling were almost unheard of and anger was usually kept wrapped up tightly in a little corner of his brain where he pretended he didn't mind the things that made him angry. Passive aggressive maybe but whatever. When you grew up with sisters that could kick your tail across the forest and back it was just easier to let things slide. Regardless, for some reason today Locustflight felt able to laugh, the sound simple and modest, almost shy as though he needed to practice it a bit. If Gingerstorm of Spottedstream heard they would probably insist that he go see Stormbird to make sure he hadn't spiked a fever or rolled in catnip.
But in that moment, flying through the air and toppling Fallingsnow, Locustflight laughed. They tumbled in a whirl of blue sky and waving green grass, the scent of spring in his nose when he pinned the white she-cat with sheathed paws. He felt her grab his shoulders and saw her mismatched eyes flash and gleam in the sunlight and...it was like someone had kicked him in the stomach. Laughter. Honest, though modest, escaped him for the first time in moons. As soon as the sound escaped though, Locustflight's blue eyes widened in surprise. It slipped past his lips without any real permission from his brain and in fact stalled the tom for a moment. Just long enough for him to realize how close he and Fallingsnow were. He could feel her breathing, could feel his own elevated breaths...her eyes were bright and her snow white pelt gleamed in the sun...Locustflight's heart leaped into his throat.
Rearing back a bit from Fallingsnow, Locustflight moved to let her get up, a blush warming his skin under his fur. Embarrassment, another rarity for the skinny tom, bubbled in his belly. Grinning sheepishly at Fallingsnow, Locustflight flicked his tail, former energy and playfulness seeming to retract into him. It coiled up like a snake in his belly with embarrassment as its venom coursing through his veins. What was he doing? Prancing through meadows...running all over the place like an apprentice with a crush...Fallingsnow had better things to do no doubt...And now they'd gone running all over and scaring the prey for miles around.
"Uh...Sorry," Locustflight said, blue eyes flashing in the sunlight as he shifted on his feet, skin hot under his fur. He could practically feel his sandy pelt darkening from the force of his blushing. "Dunno what came over me..." Locustflight's tongue felt clumsy and his paws were tingling. This was all so unusual...Locustflight hunted, slept and did little else. He talked with clanmates from time to time but...play? Pouncing and prancing about? He'd never been prone to those sorts of things before. He hadn't flirted wildly when he was an apprentice or chased after pretty she-cats, or toms for that matter. So...why was his heart thumping in his throat and his mind telling him to runstayplaysmilelaughrunrunrun?
