The morning had come and gone for Mousenose who was enjoying the soft lulling new-leaf breeze as it brushed at the tender strands of his heavy pelt. The tom was nestled on one of his favorite moss covered stones with his rump tucked neatly against his chest as his tongue strode several licks over some straggling hairs. It was now mid-day and how nice of a nap he had gotten to enjoy. Sure, some apprentices and kits poked at him in his sleep but his heavy paws swatted the nuisances away with ease insuring a good bit of sleep. The dream that came to him was one of his favorites because it featured his darling Leafstep. The she-cat smiled sheepishly at him and led him through a thicket of undergrowth but his clumsy paws weren't fast enough to keep up with her pace.

He rounded the corner of a tree and into a clearing but she wasn't there. Crickets played their song loud and clear. Birds flocked overhead stirring his attention where he thought he saw her shadow at the base. He rushed to the darkened patch and fur shifted from behind the greenery. The large maw of his father, Hawkstorm came into sight. 'Don't worry so much, she is fine, and proud of you both,' he meowed softly touching noses to his son before slipping back into the leafy green of the bushes once more. Mousenose stirred in his sleep finally drawing his eyes open with heavy blinks. Ah, it seemed he was all slept out seemed like he might actually have to find something to do now. The warrior raised his plump rump into the air giving his spine a deep languid stretch before etching his forepaws to meet his hind.

"Hmmm, where is everyone it's practically mid-day?' the tom mumbled to himself as his amber eyes floated across the clearing.

For many, today was officially the first day of new-leaf; a lukewarm sun hung high overhead, and what was left of the leaf-bare snowfalls had dissipated to a mere sparkling frost. Prey had emerged from their scarce hibernation - mice and voles and shrews were once again flourishing - and although the mornings were still laced with a numbing, aching chill, it seemed as if the worst of winter had finally been left far behind them.

In many ways Chipmunktooth was grateful for new-leaf's arrival; leaf-bare had taken a toll on the warrior. Not physically or mentally, mind you - he was still as chirpy as ever - but the clan had desired more from on of their resident slacker's, and Chipmunktooth had finally been made to pull his weight. Finally, it was done; he'd worked hard - at least, as hard as a lazy butt like him could, which wasn't very hard at all - and now he believed he deserved his rest.

There was only one problem - no one was around! All were out either patrolling, or training, or hunting...he supposed new-leaf did bring its own problems. He could train Mottlepaw...but that was work, and work was not his forte. With a frustrated shake of his pelt, the crooked-jawed warrior padded to the very center of the camp and scoured the dens with curious eyes.
His ears perked upon seeing Mousenose; he liked the fellow slacker, and considered the tom a 'bro' for lack of better words. At least he wasn't being ridiculous, out working hard and slaving away on the hunt for food! Now was the time to celebrate! The borders and freshkill pile could wait another day!

"Hello, Mousenose!" the tomcat practically shouted, tail raised high in greeting. "Quiet, huh? I tried to find Mottlepaw, but she's nowhere to be seen." He casually shrugged, unfazed by his lie; he hadn't even attempted to seek out his apprentice, and frankly couldn't be bothered doing so.

The warrior was nearly about to give up on finding another cat when a voice spoke his name causing his ears to swivel atop to his head to the location of the voice. "Hello, Mousenose!" Ahh alas, that voice could belong to no other than the friendly Chipmunktooth. The tom's pink lips spread outward against his cheeks as a subtile little grin nestled it's way onto the furry warrior's face. "Quiet, huh? I tried to find Mottlepaw, but she's nowhere to be seen." Mousenose couldn't resist the scoffle of amusement that torn from his lips at the fellow warrior's words. As if he had even bothered to look for all he knew she was standing on his head. Mousenose himself couldn't speak, he honestly didn't have the faintest idea where Ravenpaw was or even where his beloved Tinypaw was.

'Ha, good evening Chipmunktooth, now let's not be rash. Opening your eyes and blinking twice doesn't count as trying to find one's apprentice,' the tom couldn't resist a faint chuckle as he stirred his limbs forward to meet the fellow warrior at the camp's center. As his form closed the gap between the two, Mousenose touched his tail to his friend's pelt in greeting. It was eerily quiet today - maybe they were all playing a joke on him and Chipmunktooth? No absurd, they didn't have the stones for it. There was the question of Ravenpaw and Mottlepaw; normally the two were persistent about being trained at constantly clawing at their mentor's fur to awaken them.

Where exactly had those two run off to? and Tinypaw - where was she? Hopefully she was badgering Falconstar about training as their own apprentices enjoyed doing. 'Hmm, I do have to admit..my stomach is making quite the fuss.' The corners of his grin seemed to splinter into a frown as his stomach admitted it's cries of defeat. 'What do you say Chipmunktooth, how about we go hunt to fill our bellies maybe we will stumble upon some clanmates to?' The warrior's golden eyes had already shifted to the prey pile which already looked unreasonably small for mid-day and a hungry queen would have their tails if they took their share.

There were not many things that Mousenose feared but a hungry queen was indeed one such thing.

The tabby tomcat chuckled at Mousenose's sly comment; of course his friend could see past the blatant lie. Chipmunktooth could swear that sometimes the tomcat was much more keen-sighed than he let on; with a rumbling purr, the bulky tomcat flicked a tail on Mousenose's shoulder in a friendly gesture, his dark eyes glimmering with barely suppressed amusement. "Alright," he sighed, with a nonchalant shrug, "you got me! Honestly, I've no idea where Mottlepaw is. She could've moved to Windclan and I wouldn't even know." He chuckled at this; in many respects, however, it was true. He hardly ever kept tabs on his apprentice, and seemed to only begrudgingly take her on training missions when he was ordered to.

At the mention of hunting his ears drooped, and his tail dropped pitifully to drag along the ground. His eyes grazed the fresh-kill pile - measly, but it had enough for, at the very least, the two of them, right? Hard work never seemed to lift his mood. Regardless Chipmunktooth was not a cruel cat, or a selfish one for that matter, and he had enough sense in that thick noggin of his to know that Starclan would not approve two functioning warriors eating their fill, whilst the elders and queens sat back and watched. He sighed, as if he'd just been told to run a marathon. "Alright, chap, just this once," came his reluctant grumble; "although I swear, if I find Mottlepaw out in the forest then I'll be having her do the hunting. Honestly, this such an apprentice' job!"

The warrior could only muse as Chipmunktooth's reply as far as Mottledpaw went. He couldn't badger the tom because he was just as bad - he had enough on his plate just making sure Tinypaw was staying on track without worrying about Ravenpaw too. Mousenose could barely contain his chuckle as Chipmunktooth deflated at the mention of going hunting. They both seemed to stare at the prey-pile with hesitation, but he was assured they both felt the haughty eyes of either a stern elder or a broody queen ready to pick a fit glowering at their pelts as if to dare them. The thick hairs on Mousenose's fur practically stood on end but finally his friend replied. "Alright, chap, just this once," Whew. Seems they would live til yet another day.

"although I swear, if I find Mottlepaw out in the forest then I'll be having her do the hunting. Honestly, this such an apprentice' job!" The fellow warrior grumbled out his reply. Twitching his nose in satisfaction, Mousenose quietly padded toward the camp entrance. "That sounds fine to me, you ought to be a pal and have her get something for your best mate Mousenose too," the tom chuckled with a happy little grin lifting his lips upward. "It would be nice to stumble on an apprentice but we may be on our own for once Chipmunktooth!" he exclaimed dramatically rolling onto his side and flailing in despair.

        Two of her three catches dangled from the clutches of her jaw as she made her way to the thorn bushes that outlined the ravine. The first mouse that had the misfortune of crossing her path was practically right outside the dens. It took her a moment to recall exactly where she had buried it, but was able to uncover its lifeless form without much of a hassle. She sat the vole and mouse she was carrying down, so she could readjust her grip to carry three. Their tails made her task much easier than trying to clasp three individual pieces of prey by their torsos. After taking a brief moment to collect herself, she quickly made her way to the ravine's edge.

        Brambles concealed most of the camp, but a few bare spots could be seen here and there. Just like her clanmates and ancestors before her, she made her way down the rocky slope to its lowest point, the prey in her mouth swaying with each step. Before disappearing into the camp entrance, she glanced up at the sun. It was still close to sunhigh, still lots of time to go out once again for another hunt before evening. She knew she should invite Sootpaw to go with her, as an obligation to her clan. But she hadn't been able to locate him yet today. Which was fine, as her hunting trips were just far less fruitful whenever she involved the younger cats.

        She pressed through the thorns that hid their society from prying eyes. The clearing opened up beyond the brambles revealing a few of her clanmates, but after a quick scan, she could not recognize Sootpaw among them. She circled around the other cats, giving them a wide berth with only a nod for a greeting, as she had no desire to participate in their small talk. Instead, Wrencloud went directly to the fresh-kill pile to deposit her two mice and vole. After she set them down on top of the other pieces of prey, she quickly turned to the apprentice's den. She didn't want to. But it was her duty to make Sootpaw the best warrior he could be.

        A couple heart beats later, she stood at the entrance of the apprentice den. It had been a long time since she had stayed here herself, but every time she went in, memories came flooding back. Shaking the thoughts from her head, she looked for Sootpaw, who was yet again, nowhere to be found. With a sigh, she spun around to head back out into the territory. Though, it wasn't a straight shot. Her eyes fell upon Mousenose and Chipmunktooth, the epitome of productive. She sighed once more before approaching them.

"Have either of you seen Sootpaw around? I owe him a hunting trip."

        Wrencloud asked. If these two had been in camp all day, surely they would have some intel on the situation.

Apprentices or not, he was simply content to spend a day slacking about, even if that did mean he was forced to go on a hunt. Perhaps he would get lucky, and find himself snagging a crippled old mouse - it was certainly possible! On such a sluggish, wispy New Leaf's day, it seemed a waste to spoil his energy on chasing prey in circles. Besides, he'd never been a very gifted hunter. A bit too loud, his mentor had always roughly chastised. "You needn't worry, Mouse; Mottlepaw's got a talent for tracking! She'll find us the best prey in the forest!" He laughed upon seeing Mousenose's dramatic flails; "perhaps they should have called you Turtleshell!" he remarked with a bemused glint lighting his amber eyes.

"Come, come, Turtlebutt! Before I'm tempted to go back to sleep!" He leaped to his paws and was padding forward, when a voice halted him in his steps. Wrencloud was the first official warrior, besides Mousenose, that he'd seen all day. "Sorry," he mewed, with a long stretch; "Sootpaw? We were actually just heading out to hunt and all, you know, like us great, productive warriors are known for. Can't say I've seen him around though!"
