Warrior: Adderfang

ADDERFANG was given the prefix ADDER for their sharp snake-like gaze. They have the suffix FANG for their fierce and no-nonsense mindset.

PERSONALITY
Young kits hear tales of the glory and grandeur of being an apprentice to the mysterious and prodigal Adderfang. Apprentices and warriors hear his name and immediately perceive a great feeling of respect. It is an air that follows him whenever he moves, in his long, sweeping strides, and his gaze that is always hard and sharp, never betraying the feelings brewing behind the mask. He innately expects the best from everyone, including himself, his peers, his higher-ups, and, most importantly, his apprentices. Adderfang is rigidly ingrained in the Warrior Code and he spends the better part of his mentoring drilling it into his students. His work ethic is immense, a burden he willfully carries, and one that he passes on to all of his apprentices, who then go on to become the most successful warriors. There is a phrase tagged to every graduate of his: "You never escape Adderfang!"

He is unbending in his morals, unyielding in his training techniques, and unforgiving in the face of failure. To the outside world, his approaches may seem harsh and unseemly-- but it is those conditions that make rough, noble warriors. He holds the welfare of Shadowclan above everything, and is more than willing to die for his clan.

HISTORY
Adderkit was born amidst a frenzied flurry of activity. Rogues from the outside world, beyond the Two-leg place, had come in search of new territory, long before the incursion that took place at the hands of Leaftalon. It started (he was far too young to recall this, of course) with the smell of new cats amongst the peat, a scattering of dead frog parts that apparently the outsiders found poor to taste, and a couple run-ins with them at the rubbish pile. From there it moved to skirmishes as the rogues realized the Shadowclan camp was already a well established, defendable location, and it came into their heads to take it for themselves.

Their first attempt on subjugation happened on the night Adderfang was born. Dewkit and Adderkit had been pushed to the furthest reaches of the birthing den while their mother battled ferociously to defend the entrance. Their father, Stonedust, had faced off against a number of rogues, killing many before a lucky claw to the gut opened him up like a fish, spilling his entrails everywhere. Aspenwind ended up being a part of the force responsible repelling the invaders to the edge of camp. A fierce warrior, she seemed to forget about the birthing process and had to be forced back into the den to continue having her litter. It was too late for one kit, a brindled tom for whom the stress on their mother’s body was too much. He was christened Battlekit in order to receive proper burial.

Maybe it was Aspenwind’s determination that brought the remainder of Adderfang’s screaming family into existence, but in the end there was Dewkit, himself, and Brindlekit, his younger brother. The trio grew into fierce apprentices, with their mother’s barbarity bred into them, an equal part to their father’s eloquence and determination. Adderpaw was matched with a warrior named Lightningstrike, a good, stoic tom, long dead from the disease from the carrion-place that  took him in his oldest years. He was trained to be noble, proud, and work his hardest to present his best to the outside world. That training, mixed with his mother’s mean streak, turned him into the strict, legendary mentor he is today.

He was given the name Fang for his ferocity, and soon the legend of Adderfang was born. He helped repel Leaftalon’s forces from the ShadowClan camp. He mourned for Loudstar and silently pledged his loyalty to the newly-named Rosestar. He taught many apprentices: a tom named Squirrelfrost, who succumbed to the rat-borne illness. Onyxfeather, his prodigal son, his legacy. Wolfpaw, another victim of the carrionplace ilk, and, most recently, Pinewatch.

As loathe as he is to admit it, he is getting older now. His bones hurt noticeably and he is not as quick on the draw as he used to be. He still feels up to one final apprentice, however— one final way to pass on his mindset and training skills to better the future of Shadowclan.
