The excitement that came with the relief of success couldn’t last forever. Nor would it ever try to. Life was a funny mix of high points and low points, pushed and shoved around by moments of extreme terror, and others of peace. It was sitting in those peaceful moments that the extremes sunk in, and it was the elephants in the room that came with them that were almost the worst part of it all, in the end. Those elephants that sat behind the doors, hanging off the railings, caught in between the coral pillars that swirled down from the roof to the floor. The golden and green light hid them, as did the hum of the TARDIS rumbling in the background. All it would take was the slightest stop for it all to come to light. A little bit of silence.
The Doctor reached forward and pushed one of the many levers sprawled across the surface of the console down with a quiet thud, shoes scraping against the grated floor as he moved over to press a few further buttons. Yet, every few moments, between movements, his gaze was drifting from the console, absently seeking out Rose in her unchanging position, perched on the console chair. How long had they been waiting around in this standoff? The short answer was probably too long. He looked down again, reaching for the screen and swivelling it around toward him as he reached for a few more buttons. His feet shuffled restlessly. Where did they even begin? It was a minefield of questions and facts that lay between them, some that needed answers, and some that didn’t deserve acknowledgement.
The smallest of sighs broke through his lips. Everything had changed. That one little decision, well, not so little decision. It all came back on them, and he wasn’t entirely sure how he felt on the matter yet. Part of him wanted to be angry about it, furious that she’d gone and made such a decision almost recklessly. That was her family, stuck over there in that other universe. That was it. Yet, there was also that part of him that was relieved. Selfishly so. When everything came down to it, the daleks, the cybermen, the other universe, all those things mixing, churning, threatening to kill as the universe itself threatened of such a thing, somehow, she was still there. Rose was still there no doubt contemplating herself on the decision.
He supposed that was what he needed to remember. She was the one who was going to have to live with the decision in the end. The decision to stay. A few soft beeps from the console had him reaching for the screen again, and after a moment, he let out a sigh, and took a step back. Reaching up, he ran a hand through his hair, before letting it drop to his side, the other slipping into his pocket as he looked toward Rose once again. “There’s a gap, a tiny little chip still remaining between the universes. Not enough to go through entirely, but…” he trailed off, giving a little shrug. His gaze however never left her. “If you wanted to say goodbye, there’s a way.”( a.k.a, alee and i are nerds and decided to rp nerd au stuff )
