Adderfang was sure that with each day that passed, getting out of his nest only grew more difficult. The first rays of dawn crept their way through into the edges of the den, and while as it always did the light disturbed the tabby enough to crack open his good eye, he could feel the stiffness of his muscles without even attempting another movement. Of course, he wasn’t all that old, however, with the morning chill hanging in the air, it was ridiculous to ignore the fact. A brief, blurred glance over the den said all he needed to know, no one else was up and moving yet. No doubt Onyxfeather would stir soon enough, and organise the day’s patrols. However until then he had a good amount of time to organise himself for the day.
Carefully, however with no less than a groan, he unfolded his limbs, and carefully lifted himself up. He was well aware of Antwhisker’s pelt close enough that the movement brush him, but, he paid it little mind. The tom could come find him if he had an issue. Without another look, Adderfang slowly, but stiffly, picked his way toward the den entrance, avoiding as many ears, tails and discarded limbs as possible. The last thing he wanted to do first thing in the morning was lecture some kit about keeping their paws within their nests. Pah. He’d done that plenty of times in the past. So, with squinting eyes, he shoved his way into the clearing, the morning light barely a dribble in the shaded camp, but enough to make him scowl. Morning would be much better if they weren’t so bright.
No matter. Slowly, Adderfang stretched his front limbs out across the ground, and arched his back, fluffy, long tail straight as a pine needle behind him. His ears flattened against his head, as his jaws parted in a long, loud yawn. Yep, that stiffness was more than the cold seeping into his bones. It was something much more… slow-coming than that. The tabby warrior shook his head, and moved toward one of the shaded corners near the entrance of the camp, somewhere the sun wouldn’t get to him until he was ready. Thankfully, it didn’t take much to get there, and almost immediately, he dropped himself down with a thud, and focused on his pelt. A groom in the morning would always be the best way to start the day. What sort of cat didn’t make sure they were presentable before putting themselves forward for their duties, after all? Adderfang thumped his tail against the ground a few times, before tugging it close with a paw, and setting to grooming the tip. Now, all he needed was company, then he’d be set for the day. Either that, or a patrol to go on.
