with the sun already beginning to lower across the blue sky, redstar couldn't help but feel as if it was time. she'd been meaning to call the clan meeting for a couple of days now, but with the rogues and speaking to rosestar at the border, things seemed to just run away from her. while there were many things that probably needed to be discussed with the clan, or at least, notify the warriors of what's going on, today was strictly for the new warrior ceremony and information on the truce with shadowclan. the thoughts still hummed in her head, a plan of attack that could be placed upon the rogues that plagued windclan and shadowclan territory. when would these things end? windclan had been doing just fine until these rogues showed up.

lashing her tail now with aggrivation at the thought of the rogues, the ginger-pelted leader leaped atop the rock that stood in the middle of their open camp. as her blue gaze looked around to see the clearing much better than on the ground, redstar allowed her voice to ring out so that all could hear. "will all those old enough to catch their own prey, join here beneath the tallrock for a clan meeting!" she tried to use her words with enthusiasm, but the dread of what was to come continued to seep in. today was going to be a glorious day as she named four new warriors into the ranks of windclan. something that hadn't been done in a good few moons with so many apprentices.

having already spoken to the mentors about their apprentices, seen their assessments, and asked appropriate questions to make sure the apprentices were ready to become warriors; it was time. four apprentices would take their pawsteps forward as their journey started with the life of a warrior. she'd put a lot of thought into the names she'd chosen that would represent these four apprentices, as well as consulting their mentors for a better outlook on who they were deep within. it was here that she waited for her clan to join her before she carried on with the plans for the meeting.

NOTES: this is both a warrior ceremony, and a notification about the rogues on the territory. at this point, windclan cats don't know much about what's going on other than maybe one or two having reported activity to swiftfoot or redstar about it. redstar will be addressing the fact that she has spoken to rosestar, and that there will be a temporary truce with shadowclan.

please note that the thread between redstar and rosestar will be going along simultaneously with this clan meeting, thus, no one but beetleberry and swiftfoot are aware of the meeting having taken place.

every step taken is careful, a bundle of moss and the odd feather tucked into his mouth and under his chin. although loonpaw wanted to help his elders, couldn't he be out training? using his claws in other ways that didn't involve finding the softest bedding? ducking into the den and chatting lightly with the cats as he laid out new bedding and removed the old, loonpaw was out with the older, mustier bedding in no time -- and surprisingly so, most of his time as a kit spent inside of the den for stories of windclan's greatest accomplishments and even failures. everything about his clan was interesting.

although he wasn't a kit confined to one of the only other dens in camp anymore, the news about the rogues at their borders was treated carefully. being this young and daft wasn't too bad, however. it promised safety and that's what cats brought when they went out onto the moors on patrols to either check for border crossings or potential catches.

just entering back into the clearing, loonpaw's ears pricked as his eyes caught the ginger fur of his leader leaping onto the tallrock. fur fluffing up with his natural curiosity, loonpaw remembered his last experience with rosestar being his apprentice ceremony; a great day.

bounding in close, he took a spot beside another cat with questions rolling off his tongue,

"what do you think it's about?"

What did that bothersome ginger fleabag want from them now? Beetleberry lowered his ears against his head briefly, twisting around to look toward the den entrance, a bunch of berries carefully under one paw, prepared to be moved into a new rock holding. Hm, no, he had an idea. It was probably about this rogue issue that seemed to be such a big deal. So much so they’d had to trundle their way and talk to ShadowClan about it. It was ridiculous in every sense of the word. Did it not occur that maybe this thread could be of benefit to them? Pah, he supposed not.

“Well, suppose we’d better get our tails moving,” he murmured to Flurrypaw, ears straightening again and a small chirp to his voice as he looked toward the apprentice. “Just leave the berries where they are, we’ll fix them up in a bit.” The black to climbed to his paws, turning, and moving toward the den entrance, tail flicking aimlessly behind him. Not that he understood why they needed to get together and deal with the issue. For all the huffing and puffing the warriors did about how wonderful they all were at dealing with threats and protecting them all, this certainly seemed like the weak way out, asking for help.

He supposed it didn’t matter. They’d get what was coming to them. The black tom weaved his way through the gathering cats to the foot of the tallrock, immediately sitting himself down, and peering up at Redstar, his usual content smile forced across his features. “It’s time then, huh?” He meowed up to the she-cat, before turning his gaze to the crowd of cats, all semmingly ready for what was to come. If only they knew the extent.

The small tortoiseshell she-cat nearly tripped over her own paws hearing the call of their leader. However as she gained her footing again Wigeonpaw forced herself to take a deep breath and hold her head up high. If she were correct this was where she became a warrior, her life goal made. Redstar had watched her assessments and asked questions so she knew that the day was coming soon, all she could hope for was that this was in fact her ceremony.

She settled herself not far from where the rest of the apprentices seemed to be collecting, flicking an ear to Loonpaw's comment. She didn't wanna give away what she knew, but deep down Wigeonpaw also knew that something was going on in the forest, something bad. Always being observant she had seen concern on the higher ranked cats face through the past days and truly she was just using her own warrior ceremony to forget about it.

"Well if I'm right a good few apprentices are of age now, so maybe thats what it is." Wigeonpaw said softly, reminding herself to act like a warrior now. She quickly groomed through her pelt, getting any dust out from her little tumble that she could.

    Jade eyes, like the color of swirling algae over a blue pool, watch with a purposeful vigilance over the clearing. A pelt of the lightest colors of the desert shifts with the changing of the breeze, and with it a head turns in the direction of a red marbled pelt emerging from the leader’s den. Those eyes of bottle green blink, and a curious curling of her maw occurs. Her thin-furred ears angle forward at attention towards the she-cat, the gradual setting of the sun making her fur turn as brilliant as fire. Be it the hunch of her shoulders or the angry flickering of her tail, Sandwisp could not help but notice the growing storm cloud above her leader’s head.

    She catches the shroud over Redstar’s gaze just moments before she hops onto the boulder that stands oddly alone in the camp, one too perfectly placed that it could not have been meant for anything other than the perch for WindClan’s leader.

    As if StarClan themselves had placed it for them.

    Her lips moving into a warmer expression at the thought, Sandwisp rises onto her paws and moves to be one the first to gather beneath Redstar’s gaze. She glides with the same featherlight steps as she always has before and, in a sweeping motion of her tail, she seats herself neatly in the clearing. She casts her eyes up, met with the burning pelt of her leader against the colorful evening sky. She hardly expects this to be an ordinary meeting of catch-up, given the grave air about Redstar.

    A couple of apprentices barely hail her attention as it is all but consumed by the emergence of their medicine cat, watching his black shape move languidly and effortlessly to place himself below the foot of Redstar. Sandwisp’s maw parts in a wonderful way for a heartbeat, hoping to briefly capture his twin lantern gaze with her own. The she-warrior dips her head too graciously in his direction with a flicker of her dark-tipped tail in greeting.

Rowanfrost glided into the clearing on the tail end of Redstar’s call, a fat rabbit hanging limply from his jaws. Taking a moment to set the unfortunate catch on the fresh-kill pile, the russet tom jogged swiftly over to stand in Redstar’s shadow, not wanting to miss out on whatever information the WindClan leader had to offer – rumor had it that a lucky someone would be receiving their warrior name, but such joyous news was overshadowed by something a little more chilling. The recent rogue activity on their territory had certainly been unusual, though the encounters had been seemingly unrelated. Even so, the deviance from the norm was upsetting, and had cast a grim pall over some of the Clan’s warriors, Rowanfrost included.

Slipping between the gathering ranks, the WindClan warrior took a quick tally of who had already appeared. There was Redstar, of course, looking as majestic as ever in the center of the clearing (StarClan knew he’d be chasing her tail if she wasn’t moons out of his league, not to mention his own slew of family issues). A couple of the Clan’s apprentices had appeared, looking small yet confident amongst the older cats, and the warrior dipped his head in a shallow bow to both Loonpaw and Wigeonpaw as he sauntered past. He was just settling behind Sandwisp when he saw the she-cat bow her head to Beetleberry in a manner that could be interpreted as…inappropriate.

Now that’s interesting.

From behind her back, Rowanfrost smirked at the Clan’s medicine cat and ran his tongue over his teeth suggestively before chuckling under his breath. Beetleberry was stoic and collected at most times, but Rowanfrost lived for watching him get his tail in a knot over the simplest of things. And if he really did have a little admirer…he would have to make a mental note to tease him for it at the next opportunity.

Firestorm stretched his legs with a loud yowl of a yawn. He had taken the early dawn patrol and then decided to assess Heronpaw’s hunting skills before going on a hunt of his own. The flame-colored and white tom felt as if he had been very productive today and earned the right to sunbathe in the last rays of the day, but Redstar seemed determined to call a clan meeting and dash any hopes of that instead. Regardless though, he respected any meeting she would call. He figured there would be one soon enough anyway—some apprentices were now at the age they could become warriors, not to mention Firestorm had noticed Swiftfoot’s absence around camp one day, along with Redstar’s and Beetleberry’s. He was astute enough to know something was going on—especially when clanmates were getting savagely ripped apart by rogues—but what their leadership was up to, he had no idea. The ginger tom supposed he would find out.

He scanned the crowd for Heronpaw and Swiftfoot, and found neither of them. Firestorm scowled, and supposed he could go sit next to his mother, but he’d rather not look like a lost kit at his age. His yellow-amber eyes caught sight of an interesting development between a longing gaze from Sandwisp at Beetleberry, with Rowanfrost egging the black tom on. Firestorm rolled his eyes and flicked his tail. That’s a fantastic way to have him put burrs in your nest when you’re not looking, Rowanfrost.

Deciding to intervene before the dark ginger tom essentially hurt himself, Firestorm padded over and sat next to him. “Good evening, Rowanfrost.” Firestorm meowed cordially, before throwing a gaze to Beetleberry as if to say he had this handled. “Seems like a few of the apprentices will be standing vigil tonight, perhaps?”

"rrrr... gotcha!" yewgaze ceased gnawing on her hindleg, ripping out the burr that had been plaguing her and a good chunk of white fur as well. a loud call interrupted her grooming and the elder slunk out of her den to investigate. "what does tornstar want from us now?" the old she-cat exclaimed with exasperation, loud enough with her booming voice for all about to hear. "you'd think we had nothing better to do-" the she-cat began grumbling as she made her way towards the amassed windclan cats. "oh! it's that one." she fixed her intense green eyes upon the tabby that now led windclan, trying to recall. or was she the deputy? what was it now... redleaf? she stalked roughly past her nephew, cypressnose, who seemed confused as to where he should settle, and sat down beside a dark ginger cat without ceremony.

the elder cocked her head toward rowanfrost, having forgotten all about the clan meeting about to commence. she smiled warmly. "you're a handsome one, aren't you? do i know you? must be a new warrior..." yewgaze sent him a flirtatious look, whiskers twitching. after a moment of confusion, she lowered her breath to a soft hiss and leaned over to whisper in the warrior's ear. "what's redleaf doing leading a meeting? where is our leader, off philandering with fish tongues?" her tone was scornful. tornstar was giving their clan an awful reputation. she really ought to be stopped, it was absolutely scandalous. why hadn't starclan intervened?

Sandpaw didn’t look like an apprentice about to receive his warrior name. He stood with his shoulders hunched and his head low—a moon earlier, had this time come, he would have boasted loud enough for them to hear him all the way to Highstones. Now he was standing as still as he could, as if the cream-colored tabby half-hoped that Redstar might pass him over if she didn’t notice his presence. Sandpaw hadn’t been able to bring himself to purposefully fail his assessment (even if he didn’t deserve a warrior name), if only for the sake of Rabbitear. His mentor hadn’t done anything to deserve having a useless excuse for an apprentice who had suddenly become terrible at everything because Sandpaw wanted to avoid the ceremony on purpose. So he’d put in the proper amount of effort and had passed the assessment alongside his sister.

“You look like you’ve swallowed Redstar’s personal pick of the prey with her back turned,” Daisypaw bluntly meowed. Sandpaw jumped, and Daisypaw flicked her tail—jerking her head in the direction of the gathering cats. Sandpaw could see his parents near the front row, and Daisypaw herself was gleaming with barely contained pride. There was something like concern in the she-cat’s eyes, and she brushed her face against his cheek and murmured in his ear, “Sandpaw—is this about the loners? You made the right choice, you couldn’t keep seeing them and be loyal to WindClan. I’m proud of you, be happy okay?”

A feeling of sickness smashed into Sandpaw’s gut, and he suddenly felt wretched. The tom jerked away, so hard that he almost stumbled into Beetleberry. Pelt bristling, Sandpaw skipped away from him and flattened his ears against his head. He didn’t respond to Daisypaw’s words—even if she hadn’t liked the loners he knew she wouldn’t approve of the way he’d finally left. He was a murderer, no better than a rogue. Sandpaw’s sister’s pride only made him feel like hot claws were tearing through his heart—an almost bitter laugh wanted to rise to his throat. She had assumed that he had chosen loyalty to WindClan, when he was aware—so painfully aware—that his choice had been made for him. That if he truly had a choice he’d be leaving as soon as he had his warrior name.

It seemed like a good idea then, now it feels as though I was planning to steal from them this whole time, Sandpaw thought. Guilt gnawed at his belly, but he took his place and waited for Daisypaw to settle beside him. He knew she was probably watching him, but he kept his chin held high and his eyes focused forward. Even if his chest heaved with obvious effort, as if he’d dashed across the moor and back, Sandpaw was going to do his best to portray himself as fine to his Clan-mates. If only to give Rabbitear something for mentoring him.

@windclan, note that Daisypaw is his npc ~~totally adoptable~~ sister.

Dewpaw had been in the middle of weaving the branches of the nursery together in a way that would allow for better warmth inside when the summons rang out. For a moment the gray-and-white apprentice didn’t even seem to notice that the call had been made. He kept resolutely continuing his task, amber eyes narrowed in intense focus as he wove the branches together. It was only when several cats had walked by him that he decided to leave the task for later. Heaving a sigh—he would have enjoyed carrying on his work but was certain Ratwhisker wouldn’t have been pleased for his son to skip the meeting—Dewpaw started to make his way to where the cats were meeting.

Where should I sit? Dewpaw balked—he tried to spot his kin among the crowd, but quickly realized that the drawback of his waiting to join the group was that there was now a decent number of cats to wade through. He ended up squeezing by a couple cats—he made sure to pause and give Beetleberry a respectful dip of his head—until he was standing next to Sandwisp.

“Er—hi Sandwisp,” Dewpaw said with a flash of a toothy grin and a fidget. Conversation had never been his superb points—not that he couldn’t talk mind you. He could talk for quite some time, and he enjoyed company as much as any cat. His youngest brother was far more personable though, and he was aware he wasn’t nearly as strong a social presence among his Clan. He cleared his throat awkwardly, “Guess it’s that time—h-heh, you know. For the uh, ceremony stuff.”

Okay this was just awkward. Give him theories and questions to answer any time. Small talk? Pathetic. Dewpaw swallowed and sat down hastily adding, “Hope you don’t mind me sitting here.”

there was a flash of brown fur; striking amber eyes appeared over the high windclan dip, and suddenly she was skidding down the dirt slope, claws raking deep into the steep incline as the deputy slipped to the bottom. the moment brown paws alighted on the stringy grass of the hollow, swiftfoot was running, redstar's commanding lyrics piquing at her sensitive ears. she barely spared the others a passing glance as she joined a gathered; red fur, as hot as the green-leaf sun snagged at the very edge of her vision however, and she couldn't help changing her trajectory, joining rowanfrost and firestorm under the tallrock.

her lungs were searing from an afternoon's exhilarating hunt by the time she'd approached the two warriors. "greetings, rowanfrost," the lithe she-cat meowed, giving the tom a quick dip of acknowledgement; he was a cold and aloof sort, though that rolled over rather well with the deputy. better than some of those crazy talkers she'd encountered before, cats that could prattle a mouse to death if given the chance. a tail tip flicked as she came to perch by firestorm's side, settling comfortably beside her old friend and pausing to groom at a muddied forepaw.

"so an apprentice ceremony, eh?" she muttered, as she tugged rather irritably at a stubborn burr lodged between her toes. a dark pupil flickered up to the tallrock where the regal redstar stood, as beautiful and authoritative as ever. "hmph. less termites to teach, i s'pose." Though her words were harsh, there was a hint of humor to her tone, and her eyes sparkled with mirth. even ceremonies seemed to settle the ragged she-cat's temper, and lit an excited fire within her eyes.
