blueberry and beetleberry were already making small talk when nettleheart arrived with his impatient quip. while it was strange to see the she-cat in place of sandfeather, and even stormbird. how peculiar it was, though the burly riverclan medicine cat asked no questions. the only information the thunderclan medicine cat provided, was that they both circumstantially retired, and she would be taking their place - and peachpaw in wake.
oh great starclan, peachpaw. nettleheart had had a good fifteen heart beats around the she-cat and his fury temper was already flickering with discomfort. he watched as the exuberant apprentice threw herself at flurrypaw in a hurried frenzy. nettleheart whiskers quivered disapprovingly, though perhaps it was better she threw herself at flurrypaw, instead of clinging to his own paws, for he may have had to flick her off like an annoying fly.
nettleheart lowered his head and narrowed green eyes as the ginger and white apprentice, speculating carefully about thunderclap's future. "and you share your den with this... hyper creature, blueberry? great starclan, you mustn't sleep at all." when he'd straightened up, sparrowpelt and crowpaw had joined at the summit with their gentle greetings. there was no mention of blackpaw, and nettleheart provided no answers. surely the other understood that if something tragic had happened, he would have said so. there was no joy in admitting that your own apprentice left you to become a warrior.
the last face to arrive was a new one - tigerpaw. green eyes flickered past the orange tabby expectantly, as if to see tawnygaze appear from the misty darkness. there was nothing. the skyclan apprentice mentioned that her mentor was ill and unable to attend, his green eyes narrowed defensively and his pelt prickled with discomfort. he prayed that tigerpaw was not carrying disease on her - starclan forbid riverclan, too, lose their medicine cat with no apprentice to carry the weight. nettleheart rocked back on his haunches, but revealed nothing of his ill-thought worries.
it was blueberry that initiated things now, remarking that it was probably time they made their connection with starclan. nettleheart was already rising to his paws, his steps falling into line with the path walked many times before, toward the mouth of moonstone. "how have things been so far with riverclan and shadowclan, skyclan too?" bettleberry's words clung like a sticky sap in his ears, nettleheart hesitated. he didn't want to talk about the tensions among riverclan and skyclan borders, nor that their warriors were beginning to question magpystar's ability to lead, and his choice of deputy. hmph, duckstep hadn't even mentored an apprentice from start to finish, and magpystar expected a leader out of the young she-cat? don't even get nettleheart started. "riverclan is well, new-leaf has been kind to us." the medicine cats were not daft, news travelled.
@the medicine cats, cause im too lazy to tag everyone.
