Hushedtalon cast him an amused look for his catch over her shoulder, but was quickly distracted by the water once more. The old Maine Coon instincts when it came to water reared their head as she hunkered down next to it to continue lightly papping the surface with her paw. Her wide, yellow eyes were locked on the shattering and scattering of light by the warped water to the point she barely noticed the scratching over of the vole's corpse and even less so his joining her back by the water's side.
When Midnightfang finally stood at her side, she twisted her head to the side slightly to peer up at him. She let the insinuation and invitation sit unanswered for a few moments. With a sudden, sharp nod, the warrior tightened her crouch. The muscles of her legs bunched under her and she rolled her shoulders in preparation. The she-cat was off like a bolt. She shot forward, leaping over the shallows, the tips of her paws and tail just barely causing ripples from the low leap. Gravity caught up and pulled her down into the water, refusing her another second of looking like she was gliding across the water. The resulting splash from the force of her jump and the dense fur around her was impressive, the furthest droplets reaching where Midnightfang stood at the shore.
If she could have laughed, she'd have. Her head broke the surface and shook, whiskers heavy with clinging moisture. Her massive paws paddled beneath her, body winding through the pond, occasionally catching scraps of floating plantlife and algae on her coat. She'd be a mess when she climbed out, but for the moment Hushedtalon was at peace. The heat of the day still clung to the line of her spine and her thick-furred ears, but the cool water began creeping through her long hairs. Her shorter double coat would keep her from getting too cold, but even the slight slackening of the hot day was a welcome relief.
The she-cat twined her body into a sharp curve to face her companion and drifted closer. There was another empty moment of noise, besides the lapping of water and buzz of bugs, before she leaned back as best she could in the water and lashed a foreleg out. The resulting slap of water was obnoxiously aimed toward Midnightfang's face. War had been declared.
