LEGEND
"Amberstone's words" | Amberstone's thoughts | " |
Everything was dark, blood every where, cats screeching and fighting one another. Amberpaw stood there staring at the cats fighting. She tried to call them, to tell them to stop. They were fighting at the edge of the gorge, the cliff close so close she could see abyss. To her horror her voice couldn't reach them. She couldn't even hear her own voice as she yowled her hardest. Why were they fighting? WindClan and RiverClan aren't at war. So why?
Cats tumbled towards her, and Amberpaw just barely managed to get out of the way. Rocks slid under her hind paws and tumbled away. Amberpaw looked behind her, her orange eyes wide with horror. She was right at the edge now. One wrong move and its over for her. Heronheart cried out and ran towards her. Cats slammed into her, knocking her off her paws. She went over the edge but managed to cling to the edge with her foreclaws digging desperately in the earth. Without thinking Amberpaw ran towards her mother and reached out to grab her scruff to pull her up.
Heronheart looked at Amberpaw in the eye, saddened and angry. "
Amberstone yowled, leaping to her paws. Eyes wide she looked around her, expecting to hear fighting cats and smell blood. Instead she found cats sleeping, or was sleeping. Several of the cats opened their eyes, startled awake. Others grumbled in annoyance. Amberstone looked to the exit, it was still night. It took her another moment to realize where she was. It was just a nightmare... no, a horrible memory.
To the cats looking at her Amberstone mouthed an apology and settled back down. She soon realized her nest was in shreds. StarClan, it looked like she was fighting in her sleep! Amberstone tried to close her eyes but her mind was too awake and every time she closed her eyes she saw the fighting and the blood. The worst of it was seeing her mother look at her with that accusing look.
After what felt like hours Amberstone finally got up to her paws. She can't go back to sleep. Amberstone got up and stalked to the exit of the den. Outside she felt the cool air enter her lungs, touch her face and tickled her whiskers. Amberstone sighed in relief. It felt far too cramped in there. She looked up at the night sky and found it greying slightly, the moon no where to be in sight.
Amberstone got to her paws, deciding that she would take a nightly stroll to help her sleep. She left camp and swam to the shore. She kept walking, not looking where she was going or have a destination in mind. Amberstone padded to the river and walked upstream along it. She passed the stepping stones and the twoleg bridge. Amberstone stopped when she saw the cliffs of the gorge ahead of her. She followed it till she neared the waterfall.
