Rookpaw couldn’t help but be happy that Otterfoot was her mentor. He was happy, and laughed easily, much like herself. He also didn’t deny her the chance to try things, even if she had a disability. And honestly, was it that bad of a disability? She could get around fairly well and had caught prey items before, she just had to do it a slightly different way. No, Rook never thought of herself as disabled, as not able. She was able to do anything she put her mind too, and Otterfoot seemed to believe in her too.
He his pelt free of the water, splattering it on the riverside and sharing it back to Rookpaw.
”So what did you think you did wrong?”
Rookpaw hmmed quietly to herself, breaking eye contact with her mentor to glance back at the river. The frogs were slowly returning to their rocky positions after her mad scramble scared them away. The bugs had returned as well, darting back and fourth over the frogs who considered them with their large, blank eyes.
What had she done wrong? She knew that even though cats were some of the best predators around and had a great success rate in comparison to other hunters, they did not have it 100%. Cats still miss more than they score, it’s just apart of being a predator. If predators were better at hunting, the prey would be hunted out and the predators would go hungry.
But if he was asking then there must have been something she did wrong. Her mind went over her actions - the stalking, the waiting, the pink mouth opening, the jumping, the—
“Oh!” she exclaimed, looking back at Otterfoot, “Jumped! I jumped too late, and that frog got away, he did!”
