The night air was still bitter against small wet noses. With GreenLeaf still a moon or two away the temperature fell enough at moon-high to make even a thick coated cat like Pepperstrike fluff up their fur to try to hold in their body heat.
The newly crowned deputy slunk away from the warrior den he had been napping in and trotted towards the apprentice den. Pepperstrike slowed as he neared the opening of the apprentice sleeping area and he sniffed to find the young cat he was searching for.
The clan was quiet. A few cats were watching their borders, keeping an eye on those sleeping. He nodded to each sentry as he passed them, grateful for their service.
Dunepaw had been assigned to him shortly after Pinestar had given Pepperstrike the rank of Deputy. The young cat was… lazy. He was old for a new apprentice, his sister Myrtlepaw proving to be a great warrior in the making long as she started her training three moons prior. Pepperstrike grumbled lowly to himself now, wondering if this was Pinestar’s first test with him.
Give the new deputy the strikeout and see if he can make a champion. Maybe Pepperstrike was too old for this. Pepperstrike had such little patience for the young, and had a shorter patience still for the lazy. Every cat must contribute his or her fair weight to the clan, be it in rodents caught or blood shed.
So. How to make Dunepaw a warrior worth his muscle.
Pepperstrike figured making the young tom work until he hurt would be a good start.
”Dunepaw,” he growled when he found the right sleeping soul. When he didn’t get a satisfactory response he growled louder, the sound rumbling in his chest and working its way out of his throat. ”Get up you stagnate mouse-turd!”
Other apprentices stirred, some flashing their bright eyes at the pair.
”You eat far more than you give to the clan, Dunepaw. It is time to correct that. Get. Up.”

Notes: like i said in chatbox, let me know if you want me to change any of the godmoding, i am HAPPY to do it! this starts in the sleeping area but they'll end up in the forest, so that's why i am posting it here =D
