History told her that if she tried her best she would succeed, at least thats what the elders told her as a kit. Duskfeather was never the cat that would give up, she always held her head high and no matter who told her it wasnt possible she made it possible. Thats why she was out here, holding her paw above the water, green eyes locked down of the shimmery scales of fish making their way past.

She was never really a good fisher but that didn't mean she couldnt try to be. The brown she-cat came here almost every single day in order to work on her skills and try to be the best that she could be. Something told her it was something that couldnt be self taught however as moons have gone and she still hasn't quite figured it out.

Lashing her paw out at a fish that had just darted into eyesight, she yanked it up. Gasping at her own success she bit down on the creature as soon as she possibly could, not wanting it to have the chance to slither back into the water. Her old mentor would be so proud of her if she returned with this as an apprentice that was for sure.

Finally she grabbed the fish, done praising herself, and made way for the camp. though she didn't get far when she saw a figure making its way by, tilting her head and padding towards it.

When he was a kit and Robinpelt first took it upon herself to introduce her kits to the water, she probably could have guessed Spottedowl would turn out to be half fish. Since he'd been young, Spottedowl had loved the river. It was his source of comfort, a constant in his life, unchanging and yet so enchanting. From the raging floods to the calm summer days when the water was warm and full of sunlight, Spottedowl loved it all. He remembered Magpiestar telling him once that if he hadn't killed that owl so long ago, his name would have been Spottedsplash or something like that because of how much he swam. It amused the golden brown tom now as he kicked his legs lazily in the shallows of a small natural cove. The current was slow here, Spottedowl's movements habitual and calm as his green eyes skimmed the rippling surface. Strong, lean muscles moved easily under the water, sleek dappled pelt slicked to his body.

There!

Lunging forward, Spottedowl slipped under the water. Lean body moving easily through the current, Spottedowl lashed out and snapped his jaws. The taste of fish blood filled Spottedowl's mouth as the tom jerked his head back and up, the powerful body of the fish writhing i his jaws. Keeping his jaws firmly clenched shut, the warrior pulled the fish above the water and kicked his way toward the shore. It was a trout, the body long and strong, flopping on the sand for a few moments, too far from the water to make it back to safety. Giving another firm bite to the fish, Spottedowl killed the fish, droplets of water running down his whiskers and pooling around his paws. Grinning to himself, the golden tom nudged some sand over the fish to keep it buried before turning to the river again.

The water slipped over Spottedowl's dappled pelt as the tom kicked his way back out into deeper waters for more fish. The rushing current felt comforting, swirling around his legs as he cut through it. For once the young tom was able to think and focus on the sunlight over the water, the sound of moving water, where his body felt suspended and weightless. Normally Spottedowl was too busy worrying about where he had to be next, what assignments Ashenfang or Magpiestar had given out. Not today. Miraculously the tom had been able to avoid border and assigned hunting patrols for the day so he'd been able to spend all day out on the river, exercising and listening to the ebb and flow of the water. His muscles felt pleasantly warm and stretched, his movements purposeful and confident. He'd missed this, a simple day of swimming and fishing. It always got overshadowed by the busy days of doing chores and showing up on time for patrols.

A glimmer of silver under the water caught Spottedowl's eye and with a small splash the tom slid under the water again, kicking out toward the fish. When he came back up again, snorting water out of his nose and a medium sized fish in his jaws, the tom noticed a figure on the bank. Duskfeather. For a moment, Spottedowl froze, kicking his feet to stay above the water, momentarily forgetting the fish in his mouth. After a few moments of staring at his clanmate, Spottedowl mentally kicked himself and physically kicked himself toward the bank. Standing in the shallows, water rushing around his limbs and dripping off his ears, whiskers and tail, Spottedowl dropped the dead fish and grinned sheepishly at Duskfeather. His pelt, darkened to brown by the water, gleamed in the sun.

"Uh...hi Duskfeather," Spottedowl meowed, waving his waterlogged tail to the she-cat.

Duskfeather had stopped moving, just watching the figure swim around and enjoy itself, clearly a better fisher than her. She glanced quickly down at the single fish at her paws and laughed at herself. Soon lifting her head again she recognized the figure as he came up with a fish himself, Spottedowl.

He was a lovely looking tom, named after an owl he had gone at as an apprentice and his prefix of course for his sleek spotted pelt. Definitely not bad looking at all, though Duskfeather never pursued it seeing as he was always gone, hunting or on patrol. There was never time to speak to the tom with how busy he kept himself, it was a wonder he was out here on his own for once.

It was a curious thing as Duskfeather watch the tom pulled himself from the water and padded towards her, seemingly embarrassed though she'd never understand why. She smiled and nodded back to him, as she was a bit lost for words at the moment.

His normally light colored fur was a deep brown, much like the fur on her face and that didn't stop the spotting to be even darker, it was an interesting mix and she wondered what it would be like if he always looked like that. Noticing that she was completely lost in her thoughts while simply staring at him she flicked her ears. I'll kick myself for that one later... She muttered in her head.

"Hello Spottedowl, I see you had a good fishing adventure?" She purred, trying to ease his nerves and her own. He probably is just embarrassed about being seen swimming like that, its nothing. Why would he have any kind of interest in her strong enough to act different anyways? She was just the typical she-cat of the clan coming and going on patrols as she was called.

In his lifetime there had been situations where Spottedowl had been called handsome and sometimes he believed it but usually he wrote it off as a passing compliment, nodded his head sheepishly and went on, murmuring a compliment in return. He knew swimming all the time kept him physically fit and a steady diet of fish kept his pelt sleek like many RiverClanner's but sometimes during Gatherings a she-cat or occasional tom would comment on the handsome pattern of his pelt. Spottedowl remembered always being surprised by this as an apprentice because his father, Leopardfoot, had the same pelt. To him it was not unique. But Spottedowl wasn't blind and he liked to admire other cats for their strengths and beauty. Duskfeather had always fallen into the "beautiful" category in Spottedowl's mind, even when they'd been apprentices. They were around the same age but he could remember being dazzled by her bright eyes when he'd first properly met her as a young apprentice. They stood out beautifully from her soft brown pelt and when she felt up to it she had an enchanting smile. It was the butterflies in his stomach that had often kept him from having long conversations with her. He'd get nervous and make up an excuse to leave, like having to go on a patrol or get some hunting done. Duskfeather had always had the grace to let him leave, though Spottedowl could never tell if she noticed his occasional nerves around her.

"I have," the golden tom meowed, offering a small smile to his clanmate. He flicked his tail toward her own fish. "And it looks like you have as well. I didn't think anyone else was out on the river today...Things have just been so tense in camp. I needed some time away."

There had been a lot of muttering and grumbling in the warrior den recently about various things. Spottedowl wasn't terribly politically minded so he preferred to keep to his own business. Whatever the others were so upset about, Spottedowl had no experience with. He was a warrior of RiverClan and as such he had a clan to provide food for, to protect. If the others wanted to get their tails kinked over something or other, let them do it but Spottedowl would go about his business to make sure no one went to sleep hungry. Maybe he'd spent a good portion of the day lazily swimming, letting the water wash away his worries, but who could blame him? Sometimes it was necessary.

Glancing back at Duskfeather, he noted her darkened pelt, her paws damp from the river. "If you'd like...you could join me?" Spottedowl meowed, the offer coming out sounding like a question. "There's plenty of daylight left...and company would be nice. If you're not busy of course."

Spottedowl was a social creature. He thrived off of the ambient emotions of his clanmates. When they were content, he was content. When they were tense he was tense. Spending the morning with his own thoughts had been nice but some conversation and a friendly face was nice too. Duskfeather had always seemed like a very nice she-cat, sometimes a bit crabby but no one was perfect. It would be nice to spend some time getting to know her better away from the prying eyes of camp but...well she probably had her own business to attend to. She also wasn't much of a fisher if Spottedowl remember correctly. He couldn't remember if she just didn't like it or hadn't practiced much but he had the vague memory of her mentioning it when they'd still been apprentices. Still, the golden tom hoped she'd say yes.

Hi everyone,
This announcement is being made with an extremely heavy heart, and we know it may not be a popular one. However, Alee and I have made the decision that we are going to be closing Chasing the Sun by the end of the month. Originally, we were going to wait till the end of the activity check before making the call either way, as no doubt some of you picked up from my introduction to the check itself. But, after seeing some of the most recent hiatuses and their updates, and talking with a few members who will not be continuing on the site, we’ve decided at this stage in time, it’s the right time to bring things to a close.

Chasing the Sun is a play-by-post roleplay based on the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. We are set in the original forest in an alternative universe from the books, where SkyClan were never forced from the forest and the characters we have known and loved have not existed. THUNDERCLAN VERSES BADGERS
Due to a change of high ranks that is to take place, this plot has been updated and modified. if you were originally involved, please make sure to check the thread and voice if you still want involvement as soon as possible! The Forest Prince is the the current thread leading into the start of this plot.

WIND/SHADOW VERSES ROGUES
Redstar, Rosestar and their fellow high ranks of WindClan and ShadowClan have met on the border of the clans and formed a truce, after it has become aware that a group of rogues has become a threat. Both leaders have addressed this issue in their clan meetings, with Rosestar setting the rule that until the rogues have been dealt with, cats are not to leave camp alone.

WINDCLAN - MEDICINE CAT PLOT
A significant change has taken place in the direction of this plot, and the main post has now been edited to reflect such. We are still looking for WindClan cats to be involved, so if you have a cat you’d like to have something happen to, places are still open.

SKYCLAN VERSES RIVERCLAN
With the border clash narrowly avoided by Pinestar’s intervention, steam has yet to ease, as the SkyClan patrol stand in camp to address the clan getting too ambitious. Meanwhile, with the change in leadership of RiverClan causing discomfort across the clan, there is no doubt that everyone is on edge. Another clash is imminent.
