Deep in the bowels of the Nursery slept a giant. His thick fur was a tangled mess from sleep, his jaws were agape and making a horrifying, throaty sound. Three tiny warriors awoke from the racket, their fluffy bodies leaping to their paws and quickly surrounding the giant to better find an angle of attack. After a quick look of assurance from one another, the trio barreled into the monster's stomach with their squealing battle cries. It generally took nothing short of a tornado over his head to wake the gray giant, Foamsong, but hissonsenemies were much louder than that, especially when the one named Seakit tugged on his ear and growled so menacingly. He cracked his eyes open with a bellowing yawn and quickly brushed Seakit back toward his belly before rolling onto his back and capturing the little warriors in his powerful arms. As the kits, erm warriors, struggled in his grasp he let loose a maniacal laugh before letting them free themselves and rolling to stand and tower over them. With a unified shriek they retreated to their mother's nest to hide behind her, and he chuckled.
Foamsong winked at his mate and kits before venturing over to give each of them an affectionate nuzzle. "I'm off to go hunt up some badgers for supper, you warriors take good care of your mother." his soft voice said, holding only a hint of sternness before he grinned and nodded to them on his way out. The three tom-kits gave chase, but Berrywhisker was faster and corralled the complaining boys back to their nest to get more sleep.
Upon squeezing his way out of the Nursery, Foamsong had planned to visit his sister. Juniperjaw had been busily leaving camp in search of newly grown herbs for days now, and he thought perhaps he could help her a bit, as well as offer some company along the way. While the medicine cat had an apprentice to do such a thing, it was best to have at least one medic in camp in case something happened. Besides, it could also double up as a hunting trip. He figured Juniper wouldn't mind him providing for the Clan in his own way while they were at it.
However, on his way to her den his hazel eyes spotted a small striped form all alone. He recognized the figure as Hawkpaw. The little sprout had come to the Clan a mere two moons ago. Foamsong remembered seeing the tom for the first time, hardly resembling a kit. Unlike his sons, he'd been battered, dirty, and extremely malnourished. Of course, as an expecting father at the time, Foam had been worried sick for the poor tom-kit and even offered to take him under his and Berrywhisker's wing. Orchidflower had already claimed the child though, and the gray warrior wouldn't dream of taking Hawk away from the one cat he might actually be able to warm up to, what with her being the one to find him and all.
Despite not being able to father the little tom like he'd wanted to, Foamsong still kept tabs on him. He was continually worried that Clanlife would stress him out or prove too difficult. He'd be more than willing to step in as his mentor, if the situation called for it. They had gotten to know each other quite well, what with Hawkpaw having stayed in Juniperjaw's den for a spell. The large gray warrior visited his sibling often, and with him being worried about the newly minted SkyClanner, he'd also gone to check up on him as well. The poor little guy was timid though, having quite blatantly been abused before he came to live with SkyClan so Foam didn't know him as well as he'd like to. He had kept his distance when he thought it was needed so that Hawk would be comfortable. Now though, with him shivering and whimpering like that, he couldn't help but wander over and see what was going on.
So with deliberately audible steps, Foamsong approached the small apprentice. He wanted his approach to be heard, so as not to startle Hawkpaw. The warrior stopped in his approach when he was half a fox-length away. Settling on his muscular haunches, he gazed at him with gentle hazel hues. "Hey there Hawkpaw, what's going on?" he asked, his soft, melodic voice soothing. "Do ya need me to go get Juniperjaw, are ya hurt somewhere?"
