The sun was hitting noon, the burning warm glare hitting down on the young apprentice, and he couldn't help but long for a swim in the river. The rains had been a few days ago now, and hopefully the river wouldn't be too fast. If it was, well, he could use the practice!

Tallpaw's lanky paws led him to the shore, and he stretched out before eyeing the cold water. After all of that training with his mentor, he could do with a break-- even Silverfox agreed. With a puff of pride in his chest, he stepped forward into the water and let his body slip in, his slick fur plastering to his form as he got himself drenched. The apprentice pawed around in the water, swimming to the opposite shore, though he knew better than to leave the water.

Any cat could smell the stink of the other clan, Skyclan, right up against the water's edge. They sure were determined to not share any of the shore, for whatever reason, even though no cat liked water like Riverclan. He tilted his head and wondered if Skyclan really could jump like the elders said. Shaking his head, he turned his head and went to swim back to his side, casting his eyes into the water to look for fish... If he could snatch up a meal for his clan, his mentor would be so proud...!

Seeing a fish at the bottom of the river trying to slip past him, he let loose a growl and tried to dive down to get it, a natural in the water. Unforunately he totally missed and came up gasping for air, but his paws found the shallow end quickly enough.

"Bah... I'll get you next time!"

VervainSoft golden light filtered through the broken spaces between branches and blanketed the undergrowth of the forest with speckled colors of copper and gold. It swirled around the form of the grey-and-white cat that lurked in the contrast between light and shadow as the breeze swayed the trees above. Soothing. This day was so soothing, so wonderful, so right. Vervainpaw shook out the short, but plush, fur of her coat as the still young apprentice padded forward at long last.

Deeper within the forest and beyond the reach of ThunderClan's territory her own Clan's camp lay hiding among the thick brush and lines of trees. It had been a boring day though filled with simple activities such as cleaning out nests. Vervain supposed it was just the miracle of a passing chance that allowed her to sneak out undetected and try hunting on her own. That was how the she-cat had found herself here on the edges of SkyClan's territory and watching the glint of sunlight on the river's surface.

Beyond that border the scent of RiverClan hung in the air, dense and full of the smells of fish and water plants. It was putrid to the SkyClan cat's nose, but she supposed that her own kind's markers were just as bad to them. Ever clan smelled differently for a reason though. It would be too confusing if they didn't seem to repel enemy cats so well. Tail bristling despite her best intentions the she-cat continued to creep forward with her mouth open to inhale the world around her as she had been taught by her mentor. No doubt he too would have a fit if the apprentice was to be discovered missing from the camp with the others.

I just have to bring back prey though. Surely then they would be too proud of me to still have me in trouble! The thought process of the young molly was flawed to say the least, but to Vervainpaw it was anything but wrong. No, it made sense to the brain within that small head and between those pointed ears that swiveled to and fro that this was the right thing to do. So, when she began to follow the scent of water vole down towards the river bank, she didn't think twice before slinking into a hunter's crouch only to blink her amber gaze in confusion at the frustrated yowl of another cat.

"Next time? Why don't you just swim after it and chase it down? That's what we'd do if it was a mouse or squirrel."

Tallpaw's ears swiveled towards a strange voice, his gaze chasing after the sound until it landed on a relatively small grey she-cat on the shore-- Skyclan's shore! She must have been a Skyclan apprentice. Batting his paws through the water, he brought himself closer to the edge of the river, pulling himself to the shore of the water, but he never let his pristine white toes step on to dry land, just in case. Rules were rules, after all!

The boy cracked a grin as he shook out his fur and replied, "Yeah, well, it's not as easy as it looks. Can you breathe underwater?" His whiskers twitched in amusement as he crouched down into a classic hunters pose, like one would use to stalk mice and squirrels. His belly fur was already soaked, and he didn't mind the crisp coolness seeping into his skin. It made the sun feel all the better on his shoulders.

"You have to hold your breath and be able to use your teeth to grab a fish like that, since you need your paws to swim. That's why we usually fish on the shore, it's much easier to just knock a minnow out of the river and then kill it," he explained plainly as his mentor would, feeling a swell of pride in letting out every Riverclan secret he knew. To him, it was just making friendly banter, though.[break][break]

"I'm Tallpaw, by the way! Who are you?"

VervainTallpaw was met with Vervainpaw hissing softly while pulling herself back into the shadows, fur bristling along her spine as she bared her teeth. Though she had spoken outwardly she hadn't been expecting to, and the sudden approach of the RiverClan apprentice had her pulling her ears back against her skull.

It was only thanks to his friendly demeanor that had her stopping from moving backwards further with one paw still pulled upwards towards her white chest. Warm colored eyes went from being wide with the whites around them showing to suddenly blinking cautiously as her ears twitched upwards. "Uh...I mean, no. Can you?"

Vervainpaw took a curious step forward through the bracken as it caressed the flanks of her body causing a shiver to run through her small frame. Whiskers twitched in amusement while the RiverClan cat bent down into what she knew to be a hunter's crouch, though it too differed slightly as she may have expected.

A casual tilt of her head betrayed her further interest as she stopped next to the bank where he rested not far from. Here she could see him more clearly, close enough to almost touch...almost. Not that she wanted to play fight or run around with a RiverClan cat. They wouldn't know any of the fun games like climbing or balancing while running fast across high surfaces. Those were SkyClan games that apprentices and kits learned.

Caught in her own web of thoughts Vervain almost missed the cat's secrets being given so freely. Thankfully perhaps for Tallpaw though she wasn't interested in learning how to catch fish. The very idea of getting her paws wet made her wrinkle her nose as she looked at the river as though it were a live snake waiting to attack. "I suppose it would make sense yeah. We just don't go into the water normally, but you knew that."

Her gaze lifted to the trees as she considered where her Clan actually did hunt some of the time. Unlike ThunderClan and ShadowClan who hunted on the ground and in shadows, SkyClan utilized the branches of their territory as well to do their daily tasks as warriors. Still, she too could see nothing wrong with just talking on the border as long as she still went back with prey as she had originally planned. Not, that Vervainpaw was the best hunter yet anyway.

If she was going to perhaps get into trouble, she may as well make fun of it. So, she lowered herself to the water's edge and curled up closer to Tallpaw as he named himself and flicked her tail into the river and towards him with a purr. Droplets of water danced off of her fur as she flicked them towards the RiverClan apprentice playfully before she opened her jaws to mewl her name. "Vervainpaw. My name is Vervainpaw, it's nice to meet you Tallpaw."

Hi everyone,
This announcement is being made with an extremely heavy heart, and we know it may not be a popular one. However, Alee and I have made the decision that we are going to be closing Chasing the Sun by the end of the month. Originally, we were going to wait till the end of the activity check before making the call either way, as no doubt some of you picked up from my introduction to the check itself. But, after seeing some of the most recent hiatuses and their updates, and talking with a few members who will not be continuing on the site, we’ve decided at this stage in time, it’s the right time to bring things to a close.

Chasing the Sun is a play-by-post roleplay based on the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. We are set in the original forest in an alternative universe from the books, where SkyClan were never forced from the forest and the characters we have known and loved have not existed. We have a 150-word minimum and a sandbox roleplay setting that does not have an overarching plot, only those that members form together. The world is there to shape by the characters than inhabit it, growing the forest into something unique from what we have seen before. THUNDERCLAN VERSES BADGERS
Due to a change of high ranks that is to take place, this plot has been updated and modified. if you were originally involved, please make sure to check the thread and voice if you still want involvement as soon as possible! The Forest Prince is the the current thread leading into the start of this plot.

WIND/SHADOW VERSES ROGUES
Redstar, Rosestar and their fellow high ranks of WindClan and ShadowClan have met on the border of the clans and formed a truce, after it has become aware that a group of rogues has become a threat. Both leaders have addressed this issue in their clan meetings, with Rosestar setting the rule that until the rogues have been dealt with, cats are not to leave camp alone.

WINDCLAN - MEDICINE CAT PLOT
A significant change has taken place in the direction of this plot, and the main post has now been edited to reflect such. We are still looking for WindClan cats to be involved, so if you have a cat you’d like to have something happen to, places are still open.

SKYCLAN VERSES RIVERCLAN
With the border clash narrowly avoided by Pinestar’s intervention, steam has yet to ease, as the SkyClan patrol stand in camp to address the clan getting too ambitious. Meanwhile, with the change in leadership of RiverClan causing discomfort across the clan, there is no doubt that everyone is on edge. Another clash is imminent.
